Maybe one of the best in the world at his trade in his prime, some of his stats go under the radar and they speak for themselves , shame injuries ruined what would've been an even better career. Definitely one of the most underrated players in the 21st century.

This is bullshit. Gomez is a striker that was completly mediocre in any way. Is low amount of goals suggest that as well. He is no van nistelrooy, raul, levandowski, crespo etc. Just a very limited player that happend to be playing for one of the best teams in the world, for no obvious reason.

@@TroenderTass I don't rate him amongst the best, but you can't call him out for not scoring enough. He doesn't have a low amount of goals, he's scored 361 goals over the span of his career, which is more than respectable. For context, Crespo (who I agree is a better player), scored 307 in his career. So if there's one thing Gomez excelled at, it's consistently scoring goals.

I grew up watching him play for BVB rivals Bayern in the early 2010s and he was always like a constant threat. It felt like there was no moment you could really feel safe until the very last whistle blew. Watching these highlights back brings back many memories and it’s only in the last few years that I realised how much of an icon he really is . Yeah he missed some big chances during his time with the national team but when in question he did what he could best and absolutely blasted goals. Even though this lead to some tough memories especially as a Dortmund fan I think he is really underrated and the majority of German fans refer to him as a poor finisher which is absolutely 0% true if you stick to his stats. Much like with other former German internationals like Matthäus, Völler or even Toni Kroos, many German people as well as the media wouldn’t even consider them real legends but rather give them stupid nicknames and focus on their private life and gossip just to have something negative to talk about. For me Mario Gomez is one of the best strikers I’ve ever seen in the Bundesliga and also pretty underrated when it comes to international level (scored 4 goals in the 2012&16 euros combined, all of which decided games)

Gomez is an example how a decent striker should be. No dancing, no times delay, no need to touch many, play without the ball, instant finish with variety posture, good and decent physique. The only missing thing about him is speed

He was back to German national team Euro 2016 with performance on besiktas at 2015-16. He dominated the leauge that season and scored 26 goals. That was his high level performance after left Bayern.

@@user-sr3sf He goated with Besiktas in 15/16. Scored the first goal in the new stadium of Beşiktaş and also won the league and was top scorer. To this day Besiktas fans remember him fondly and he's a legend. Also Turkish super league isn't really easy either. Especially in big games things get heated and smaller teams always park the bus which makes scoring hard. Gomez was class all around. He was so professional that when he was on the verge of suspension, he didn't commit a single foul or get a yellow card for 17 games.

Haaland has huge presence, works hard and can score from any angle. Gomez had no presence on the pitch, didnt run, wasnt strong nothin - just rebounds and goals from 7metres which were perfectly assisted by robbery, schweinsteiger, kroos or müller.
