Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - SNES Vanilla Lake 1 (MK8DX Custom Track)

This is the result of a month and a half of development, days without sleeping and a lot of hard work! And unfortunately there's more behind the scenes that what you can see on this video. Here is our latest Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Custom Track!
While I'm the main author of this CT (since I made the whole track model, collision, minimap, effects, environment and most of the scene data), I couldn't have finished it without help of Wexos, who did a LOT of research on AAMP and PTCL files, which we needed to rebuild in order to get most of the things to work. He also helped me with bake maps and some BYAML stuff.
We learned a lot during the development of the track, mainly because we can actually manage environment, lighting, cube maps and more stuff in an easier way. I mostly understand how AAMP files affect how the track looks in game (although light probes are still way too hard to create, those are the ones which create the shadow and lighting effects over characters and objects); and we struggled a lot trying to add a simple effect into the PTCL file (which needed a complete rebuild of the file as well as its own shader). But we're glad we managed to get everything to work and look as good as we expected. This is all good news for our future tracks.
Unfortunately, there are still some bits and oddities that we don't know how to fix, like the snow and ice particle colors, which for some reason are darker. We also wanted to add the pipes from the original game, but that would make the track much harder to drive on (and CPUs would struggle even more).
Anyway, I'm really happy with the end result. What will be our next project? A custom battle arena? Who knows!

Wow, this track design is up there with the DS Rainbow Road for the best custom track so far imo! I just love it all--the addition of the underwater section and the Mr. Freezies over the ice blocks were really cool in particular.

This... looks like it could have come straight from the Big N themselves! I especially love the usage of those Double Dash enemies as substitutes for the ice blocks, and the addition of the underwater path! Everything is on point, nicely done!

About a year after MK8 came out on the Wii U, I dropped Mario Kart from my life and have sort of thought the community was nearly dead after that. Seeing awesome things like this has encouraged to buy a Switch and MK8DX as soon as possible, thank you.

You did pretty good for another SNES course. I wasn't expecting another one remade by you and Wexos. Still, you did great as always. If you do plan on making a custom battle stage, start off with Funky Stadium or N64 Big Donut from MK7. It may be well worth it. Anyways, keep up the good work.
