Mario Kart Wii has a fair amount of unused content, and one of the easiest examples to access has to be the tracks. But it's not just unused tracks that we can load up. Battle courses and even cutscene stages can be loaded in VS and explored against the intentions of the developers. Today, I showcase 15 secret tracks that can't normally be loaded in VS mode.
This was one of the simplest mods yet. I just renamed the tracks so the game thinks they're something else, haha. Still, I've linked the download a little further down if you're interested.

Bullet Bills actually crash in all battle arenas on real hardware due to the arenas not having item routes. Dolphin can handle the crash exception and ignores it, and thus the Bullet Bill nulls to (0,0,0)

Based on the name, Draw Demo seems like a course to test the draw distance of the game. The textures could be to see how different objects look at different disrtances. This would allow them to check if any courses look weird with a certain render distance, or if the render is too big and would crash the console

this is very unlikely, since the course's textures are stored in an older texture format that the game does not support anymore. In fact, the textures are almost the same as mario circuit's textures (aside from the textures are less saturated), but looks corrupted in game since they are stored in a older texture format.

If that's the case, my guess would be that they were used in pre-release demos for people to play. I'm not sure if they actually did demos in these cities, or even if the demos used GCN Mario Circuit, but that seems like the most likely reason.

Hayashi, Narita, and Yabuki are all common Japanese people's name(probably the developer's name?). Narita is also famous place for the international airport.

Fun fact, Galaxy Colosseum when played online, the spinner bosses arent synced while online, which means that the bosses basically goes after who ever is on that system, which makes a very amusing battle(?) when you see other players just get randomly shot off the map by seemingly nothing on your side. 2nd Fun Fact, Galaxy Colosseum has its own music, which im sure you noticed during filming and watching. 3rd Fun Fact, all courses including Galaxy Colosseum has lap 1 and lap 2 music, which is normal speed, but when you enter lap 3 the music speeds up to ~3x normal speed, and all courses with the exception of Galaxy Colosseum follows that rule, Galaxy Colosseums 3x speed music isnt actually in the game at a 3x speed, but if you were to enter lap 3, it uses the grand prix podium music instead. 4th Fun Fact, Galaxy Colosseum (or the one i used at least) counts laps if you go around the circle clockwise 3 times (one per lap), why you want to do that I dont know, but you can. A little bit of MKWii hacking in the past gave me this knowledge, and i thought i would share it with you

OK, so I wanted to answer some of the doubts you had regarding some of the courses shown in the video: (warning: long post) - There is actually a minimap model loaded in GCN Mario Circuit B (if there really wasn't a minimap, the game would crash). The reason why it does not appear is because the parameters file has an entry for an "AREA" type 0x05, which was used in WiiConnect24 competitions/tournaments to control which parts of the minimap model actually show up (used in some of them that took place in a specific part of the track). You can actually make the minimap show up again if you remove this AREA (by setting the byte located at offset 0x10B5 in its "course.kmp" file from 0x01 to 0x00). Curiously enough, the minimap model is actually an slightly different version of the minimap model from the regular Mario Circuit (with the shading in the part with the tunnel being a bit darker). Also, the reason why it crashes is because the CPUs don't actually know where to go after passing through the final jump (because the last CPU route point isn't connected to the beginning of the CPU route, so it doesn't "loop"). - GCN Mario Circuit Hayasi, Narita and Yabuki all crash because they're stored in earlier versions of their respective file formats (MDL0, STR0, KMP, etc.). They aren't that different to GCN Mario Circuit B, aside that Hayasi has some replay / result cameras, and also the other two versions are driven backwards. I actually made them playable again by converting them to the final version of their respective formats if you want to see them in action: Hayasi: watch?v=LQ46dlRKWxI Narita: watch?v=ANqLz0CB9yw Yabuki: watch?v=kwlgqnOS6QY - draw_demo might have been loaded whenever you ended up a VS Race / Battle in a tie, given its filename ("demo" is the keyname for "cutscene") and also how its course ID (0x39) is right after the IDs for winningrun_demo and loser_demo respectively. This would also explain why there're no checkpoints or item boxes: it just wasn't supposed to be played as an actual racetrack :P Also the reason why the textures look like that is because they're stored in an early version of the texture format. The textures are actually fine in the files themselves: it's the game itself what's causing them to look corrupt, as it is not designed to load the kind of texture format draw_demo's textures are stored in anymore. Other than that, draw_demo is supposed to look just like loser_demo (since every of the BRRES subfiles, except for the TEX0 textures, are byte-to-byte identical between each other) which is already interesting, as it is actually an early version of the course with various differences that are normally not that apparent in-game For example, notice how in 12:14, the pipe texture seen on top of the lamp pole on the right says "MarioKart" instead of "MARIO", just like in the E3 version of the game. - Regarding the CPUs going backwards in ending_demo, this also happens in the actual cutscene (at the end) as well, but you can't see it because the camera moves up when it happens.

My theory is that Those 3 other tracks of Mario circuit are for interns back in that day. They weren't allowed to actually work on the track versions that would be in the game, but to still get the experience of making the tracks they could work on their own version of the track. They'd never be used but this way they could learn from it still. The names behind the tracks are the names of the interns

Galaxy Colosseum was used in the 1st tournaments, but then unused. It came back when some people did a patch that added the lost 'Mission Mode'. The goal was to knock the topman's using Mushrooms, but as time goes on, the stage becomes smaller.

I always thought Battle was 50cc too, but apparently it's even slower than that. It's got its own cc, which could techincally be 0cc since it's as much speed below 50cc as the vanilla cc classes are separated by. Does that even make sense? Who knows.

Draw Demo could have been used for Draw distance, and the textures are bad looking maybe because the old textures got deleted, and maybe that is the default no texture texture. Like those black and pink squares. It's just a guess.

This video reminded me that there were actually a few tournaments that had you race on battle courses modified to work as race tracks. There were VS races on Twilight House and Cookie Land as well as time trials on Skyscraper, Block Plaza and Delfino Pier. They probably weren't the best for races but It's still unfortunate that there's no way for most people to play them anymore, there may be ways to play them through hacking however. Also, the sunset version of Luigi Circuit used in the credits was also used in a tournament. The tournament was a normal VS race, except for the fact that there are now a bunch of Bob-omb cars on the track, which sounds way more fun than regular Luigi Circuit. It's a shame this version wasn't an option in normal play, but it's probably easy to recreate through hacking.

The GCN Mario Circuit demo is an almost identical copy to the one in Double Dash, it looks outdated and it doesn't let you trick (like DD). Even the Piranha Plants look Double Dash ones. Great video tho

I think the Draw Map with the static textures might be draw distance test for mip mapping? Which is the level of quality details in the distance have, which would make the detailed textures make sense.

I believe the purpose of those Battle Stages as racing tracks has something to do with the competitions or tournaments there were during the first years. E.g.: May 2008 Tournament 2 - Wii Wheel Only - This Tournament took place on GBA Battle Course 3. The player had to drive through ten numbered gates that were placed on the track in order.

On block plaza, I edited my MKW disk to give me battle stages on normal races. It (block plaza) instantaneously crashed when it loaded up. All those little blips are most likely crashes that dolphin ignored.

If I was to take a logical guess, DRAW DEMO was likely used to tested out the draw distance of loading objects in. You'll notice that the various objects like trees and pipes have different textures covering them which might be some sort of indicator as to when they can be loaded in properly for the player to see? Like perhaps there's a version of an object's model when it's far away, and another high-poly version of that model when the object is up close? That is my best guess anyway.

12:20 In the loser demo stage I think the mountain point closest to the finish line is raised. It looks higher than I remember in the regular Mario Circuit. I could be wrong, but something about it feels off.
