As someone who is learning japanese, I noticed the Japanese version was almost entirely written in hiragana and katakana (presumably to make it easier to read for younger children, only part that wasn’t was the settings button) but anything relating to the actual anti piracy had kanji in it, as if the game was suddenly getting serious. I know this is probably because the creator is using a translator, but I still think it adds a lot to the creepy factor.

ZEROVR was on the right track with these, the first half and final error screen is well made! Shame they ruined the atmosphere by corrupting the tracks and unlocking bizarre characters, even including the Wario head What I find more odd is that the game always seems to recognize the last track played, even when they back out of the license and go back into Grand Prix/VS. You'd think it would just default to Luigi Circuit
