He isn't and he can't be by any stretch of imagination. My comparison might even be closer than ML and LP comparisons. The very fact that you're stating something like that, either means your have little knowledge of the male tenor opera singers in general or you're being a fanboy and every logic and rationale in that case is out of the water. You might PREFER ML's voice as in 'colour of his voice'. But the technique, depth (vocal not range), range (as well), diaphragm control, mouth control, dynamic control, volume (both chest and voice), interpretation and many many smaller components of Pavarotti's voice are better, some by 3 classes than ML. Actually, if you knew anything about Mario Lanza, you would know he had trouble singing for longer durations and that's why he in all practical sense NEVER sang an opera. So much about opera singer. :D Ps. No straining? Oh boy, that confirms for me that you haven't heard that many opera singers at all. ML was more on the "straining" side than he wasn't.

My father was related to Ray Sinatra and was a federal agent/USCG officer undercover and guarded Mario during this number. He is in the front row near dancer Bobby Van. He doesn't look happy. He also doubled for Frank Sinatra and was his bodyguard and appeared in musicals and his films. Frank adored Mario's singing.

Mario Lanza's voice is the most beautiful singing voice I have ever heard. His expressions, diction, control, and tone are remarkable and unequalled. As the daughter of a lead tenor in an opera company, I studied for many years and I believe I have some knowledge to impart. I had forgotten about Mr. Lanza for a long time I had always loved The Student Prince and while looking for a CD I found Mr. Lanza again. I have now ordered DVDs, CDs, and books by the score. At 77 I only hope I live long enough to enjoy them all. Thank you for posting his music. And this song (Granada) is one of my favorites. Daddy couldn't roll his 'r' s the way Mr. Lanza could. I loved him anyway.

Eu respeito cada opinião. Todo ser humano tem seu livre arbítrio. Eu tenho minha profunda admiração pela magnífica voz, a belíssima interpretação e o imenso talento daquele que EU tenho em meu entender como o maior tenor de todos os tempos:MARIO LANZA. É minha opiniao e não quero questionar com ninguem, somente respeitar o meu pensamento.

Parecido com MARIO LANZA, só daqui a 76 anos, como acontece com o Cometa Halley!!!!Ele se foi em 1959..então em 2036 aparecerá outro parecido!

No other tenor could match him, such a strong voice and always with feeling, so sad he died so young but we still have all the lovely songs he made i dont get the same thrill listening to todays tenors.

@@jrbutnotewing8227 is he a singer i have not heard of him. I have always loved mario lanza since a young teenager my gran had several of his records so thats where i first heard mario.

@@michaelburden5895 a very young singer. I would think in a few more years he would be thought of as the new Pavarotti. He us that good and even getting better. He is also as humble as Pavarotti was. I could listen to him all day long and I am an old woman!

@@jrbutnotewing8227 I listened to Jonathon based on your recommendation. While he is a very good singer and maybe he’s just too young yet. He’s not in Pavarotti’s or Mario Lanza’s League. Sometimes he gets it right but sometimes like "O solo mio" he's just not there yet.
