We just got the first batch of reviews for the super mario movie and as it turns out, it might be good.

Princess Peach being more active and heroic has precedent in the games. Specifically, all the way back to Super Mario Bros 2, where she was a playable character.

Peach has done plenty of stuff in the games, in spite of her oftentimes damsel status. And even in games where she is captured often times she’s helpful, like in Paper Mario 64 and the thousand year door, or even Galaxy where she sends Mario items. The difference is that Peach was able to keep her personality in the games while still being badass, while the film so far seems to have heavily altered her for little reason. Even the comic maintained who she was. The film by comparison seems to have dropped her unique traits.

The movie is heavily inspired by 3D World it seems, so Peach being the savior for once as well also makes sense if we’re going by the game’s logic. Luigi just got unlucky spawning in Bowser territory.

I don't mind it, although I have to admit that I kind of miss the existence of damsels in distress in films. It used to be way overdone, but now it is never done at all.

it's nothing new with princess peach having a role other than the damsel in distress I mean look at 3d world and smb2. Only worrying thing is if they give her a role too much like Daisy which might leave her character obsolete

I think her role would be better as Daisy. In this movie, (although, obviously I havent seen it yet, so I cant tell for sure) Peach seems like more of a Tomboy, which I think would suit Daisy so much better. If they have Daisy, then I dont see how her and Peach would be that different and it may get redundant, unless they change Daisy's personality, which I would also dislike.

i would say the same, but peach has been a strong character since mario 2, my favorite version of peach is even from the comics, where she ends up saving mario near the end of the first half of the book, but not because mario was stupid and got captured, both are competent

It’s much more endearing to see a character you know is physically too weak to fight back, still risking her life in order to either escape or help her heroes. Rather than a character strong from the start ready to fight with no flaws or weaknesses. I’d honestly rather have peach as a damsel. a great character arcs can be given to damsels in order to give them a strong character, she doesn’t even need to be kidnapped to accomplish such a feat.

I wish it was the damsel for peach as that what the first game is about and Mario saving her I feel like it is trying to be a bit more progressive when the story is basically a knight saving a princess from a dragon except it’s not a knight it’s the most unlikely of people a plumber so its not an adaptation of the first game instead the later games

2 games out of how many? And I’d argue smash bros doesn’t count because it isn’t a canon of the Mario world. But even then peach acts about the same in cutscenes in terms of grace. Strikers I’d also argue she’s just more sassy, which isn’t completely out of character. Or even spoiled in some animations of strikers. Even in the new strikers game she tries to remain composed for the audience despite how angry she can get and loves appealing to her fans. Something than can be attributed to a princess. And even then mario strikers is an outlier because it makes EVERYONE a lot more aggressive than usual aside from a few characters. To me this version of peach is completely out of character.

@@OfficialTomCruise123 point is regardless of her roles or game she is in, she never lost her main traits. This peach acts nothing like any other peach counterpart. And yes the comics. Im aware of them. Peach still acts closer to her other counterparts there as well. She is willing to fight back but she still has flaws. So far the movie peach doesn’t look to have any flaws. In fact. What not use the super Mario bros tv show peach as an example. Her personality was alot more complex than her game counter parts yet despite being a damsel she was thoughtful, insightful, and could fight back at least a little when the time came, even though fighting back isn’t her first choice. I might change my opinion upon seeing the movie. But I am hoping she isn’t a Mary sue and isn’t just another boss woman trope.

I think that for the movie it really made sense for luigi to be kidnapped as it gives Mario an actual reason to fight bowser, I don’t think luigi is becoming the damsel in distress from now on but I do think peach taking on this new hero like role is refreshing to see

I really like how peach plays the role as this cool badass princess. And also how she trains Mario for bowsers uprising. But the one thing that annoys me is that some people like to complain abt peach being to much of a girl boss instead of being the usual damsel in distress, like some people were saying that she’s following the “woke agenda” or that she’s super woke. Which is just annoying in my opinion.

@@princesspeachfan100 I understand, I too also love Princess Peach (I'm also a Princess Peach truther) that's why I love this depiction of Peach in the Movie, being a adaptation of Peach from the "Super Mario Adventures" comic (also this comic shows that Movie Peach isn't the directors drastically changing Peach's character for some agenda but them being faithful to another piece of the Mario source material like how they've done with everything else in the Movie.) I always like when Peach is able to have a more active role in the story. This is why Paper Peach is my favorite because of how much of a big role she can play into the story of the Paper Mario games, especially in Super Paper Mario. Maybe once we all see the film we'll all see that Peach really isn't outta character like how every believes and that the Movie can truly do justice for a fellow Peach fan like yourself!! 👍
