Fun fact: This is the only game in the series where the space designs change per board. The 1st board has 3D spaces, this one has 2-d squares, a later board has circles for spaces, and so on. Also, correction on the DK and Bowser Spaces: DK will take 5 coins from you and put them into a DK Barrel, and you are required to pull a Shake It Up with the Barrel: firmly grasp your remote and jerk it up and down for 5 seconds. You get around 20 coins or so if you shake it a lot. Bowser will say “Ready for some REAL fun in the sun” and summon 3 Podoboos that will circle you and try to rush in at you. You are asked to jump to dodge them the same way you would roll a die for 10 seconds. You lose 10 coins per fail, and the timing is sort of rough. Once finished, he’ll command you to getting back to your BORED walk and Ballyhoo will mention the stink has cleared.

"A '9' from the start takes you to the Lucky Space from the dolphin..." However, you can only do that if you have enough coins (at least 20). Last place players can ride the dolphin for 15 coins. But 1st and 2nd players only can ride them for 20. (NOTE: I am talking about the 1st dolphin at the start site of this board.) There are three dolphin expresses altogether (not counting the dolphin for the Lucky Space). The three normal dolphin expresses occur if you have a specific number of coins to ride the dolphins to move forward and try to get to Captain Goomba. The 1st and 3rd dolphins cost 20 coins (or 15 for 3rd and 4th place players). The 2nd dolphin (the one after the first candy shop) costs 30 coins (or 25 for 3rd and 4th place players). So if you have at least 20 coins and roll a "9" from the start, you can land on the Lucky Space if you ride the 1st dolphin (that's the one dolphin near the start).

Honestly it's pretty middle of the road for me if I were to rank the first 8 mario parties from worst to best purely based on my opinion I'd say: 1 5 2 3 8 4 7 6. 2 and 3 are ranked lower because I didn't grow up playing them. The only outright bad ones are 1 and 5 even then they're still fun to play

Out of "the rest" (1/3/4/5), I have a soft spot for Mario Party 1's boards, but not having items is kinda boring and most importantly some of the minigames literally damage your palms. I think i would put super mario party tied with 7 or slightly above it. Mario Party DS is either tied with 8 or slightly above it...great game but unfortunately I'm not much of a DS person, so I wish that game had a console version! 9 and 10, I won't even speak about lol. And idk about the other gameboy/3DS or whatever versions to say anything about them

To be fair, it's very easy to miss DK and Bowser spaces on this board. You'll have to avoid taking dolphin rides and you'll always want to take dolphin rides when able to. I wouldn't be surprised if Emile doesn't know what the DK and Bowser spaces on this board do as he never saw anyone land on them.

The maps in this game make for surprisingly different experiences than regular most mario party games. This one's my favorite too; you have to be really strategic with your candy to move yourself forward (or backward if the situation demands) and balancing that with trying to knock people back and having enough coins to keep picking up the candy you need.

You know what's hilarious: you can get a lucky space (aka the star thing) one the first turn. If you roll a 9 and the dolphins shuttle is nice to you. Once you pay you can go to the point of the map 2 spaces from the space and since you have 2 spaces left after the 7 you already moved. Welp you know what's gonna happen

So when my sister and I played this, it used to be one of our favorite boards. In retrospect though wow it is even more RNG based than normal, being almost entirely dice based. I guess at least coins have a single focused use but still there's a nasty amount of RNG. And that cannon is NASTY Also the most random PC of Mario party, who didn't get to come back in super unlike most other Mario party characters I want unkarted so baddly. Also I think it was specifically that they made oxide to lose the franchise (suddenly aliens was apparently an infamous sentiment in the industry ) Welp this was recorded pre-olympics Oh God the tightrope that boo can fall off of. I love that gif I heard of the Japanese only "Mario gonna have to find a new job" in sunshine, I NEVER heard of the other clips I forgot you have to specifically play with hammer bro or blooper for the second story run. Fun fact about this stage inparticular. Back when I owned a copy of Mario Party 8 this was THE BOARD you needed to be on in order to grind for all the Party Coupon's you needed to unlock everything in the game. I spent hours on this board because the amount of turns you invested into it would give you a massive networth of Party Coupons to unlock everything you needed in the Extra's Menu.

If you’re not using movement based candy you should be trying to steal or destroy your opponents money instead because money is also used for mobility options. 1:15 Lost Levels for all of us Westerners. Oh Past Jon, you sweet summer child. 2:05 The chucksters throw either a predetermined distance or a random amount within a set number of spaces. It’s probably the former since everything’s rather uniform on this board. Th dolphin stations do take you a set number of spaces, you still get to move after getting dropped off, (really helps when you try to figure out if you’re guaranteed the Lucky Space or not. Careful though as you’re not dropped directly on the space you stop at so moving onto that space I believe counts as part of your movement), and the cost is one coin per space (I don’t think they count towards Shopping Star) except maybe if you’re behind in which case it’s half off. Excuse me if my statements are more inaccurate for this as it has been quite some time since I touched MP8 and even though this is my 3rd favorite board in the game I didn’t play this one nearly as much as my first two favorites or even DK Treetop Temple because of how close to classic MP that is and guests preferring that more often than not. I thought it was two free stars and not one at the end of the Lucky space route. OK, I know for sure Past Emile is wrong about DK. DK is a coin making opportunity where you shake the Wii mote to generate coins from a barrel in 5 or 10 seconds. Bowser on the other hand will destroy your coins but you have the opportunity to not lose as much if at all by jumping via the Wii mote as Podoboos try to close in. 4:38 Ew, why would you regularly play the Boo one? That’s easily the worst of the bunch! 6:40 I think the roulette is also based on positions and coin counts. I think I’ve seen 15 maybe even 20 coins on that roulette before. Vampire Candy’s also the closest we’ve gotten to Vampire Wario returning. 7:20 Like it wasn’t obvious this was recorded before Mario vs. Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games. 11:35 Springo is absolutely busted in this mode. Not only does it allow you to jump to anyone on the lucky path, but you could theoretically jump all the way to the star or at least a few spaces shy. Only really risky part is springing backwards. That can definitely happen. 12:25 Nowhere near as bad as 100%ing MP4, that’s for sure. The solo tent boards are all duel boards in a similar vein as MP7’s, so it’s not like you’re playing full-on board games like the ones we’ll be seeing in the LP. 13:00 You don’t have to play through it as the recently unlocked character, but doing so guarantees you’ll unlock the other one since you can’t have Blooper vs Blooper or Hammer Bro vs Hammer Bro. Otherwise it’s a 50/50 chance. I didn’t realize this until I heard other people complain about having to run through the solo mode a third time or so. 14:38 The first station is the only one that will drop you off before the Lucky Space BTW. 17:38 Makes me wonder what other BS the White House has had to look at because a petition got enough signatures. 21:10 I just love how the one guy just drives away when they lose like they’re ashamed they couldn’t hit three people.

A robot pirate island? Hmm... I wonder if Emile has played Monkey Island 2 from Lucas Arts. Jon might have, considering the 90s games he has played on streams in the past. I am not sure though. If we are going with full on parallels to recurring cast, Jon is definitely the Ghost Pirate LeChuck, the "demon of extraordinary power" that is always thwarted by the puzzle-solving, environ manipulating, "sheer dumb luck" antics of Guybrush "Emile" Threepwood. And Tim would be Timmy the Monkey, the cute and surprisingly dirty one (IN THE BATHROOM). Heck, there's even the art of "insult sword fighting" that Emile and Jon have down nearly to a science. Pagoda Peak 2.0 is here everybody. I can't wait to see the dolphin rides and the pirate cannons going BOOM!

Goombas Booty Boardwalk is one of the cooler boards in this game. A pretty island setting and free stars with some cool Dolphin Shuttles and crazy Happening Space events. As for Captain Goomba's voice, Mario Party 8 is the first time where Goombas use Bob-omb-esque vocals. They would later be used for the playable Goomba in Super Mario Party. Nice work!

Super Mario Sunshine’s unused content is super cool! My favorites are the unused Yoshi drum tracks. Noki Bay, Sirena Beach, Casino Delfino, Pianta Village Festival, and the Secret Courses all have accompanying drums for riding Yoshi, but since he can’t be accessed in any of these levels, they go unused. My favorite Yoshi drum track is the one for Sirena Beach. Yoshi _is_ available during the Pianta Village Festival, but that drum track doesn’t play due to it being a performance by the Piantas instead of standard background music.

Yes and the second dolphin moves you farther than the other 2. Don't use it though because if you take the first and third dolphin you'll move 40 spaces and the second is only 30

A couple notes about Vampire Candy and the Dolphin Rides: -Vampire Candy can steal up to 20 coins per player, but it depends on the amounts of coins everyone else has on-hand. More swag, more in the bag~ -The Dolphins can give you a discount depending on your rankings. At minimum it's 5, at cap it's 30.

13:03 That's nothing compared to 100% Mario Party DS. Every single character has a badge and figure you get for completing story-mode with them. So the minimum is to do story mode 8 times. Then there are all the figurines, some of which I don't even know how to get because they are secret (I looked it up, one of the figurines is getting 50 stars on DK's Stone Statue. One is to play as Toad specifically in "many different minigames".This one isn't secret but very diffiuclt: 500 coins in Bowser's Pinball machine. There isn't as many as I remember so, it might not be as bad as I thought but still is a bit excessive.)
