In Birdo's First appearance he was a guy who believed he was a girl but later on the gender wasn't mentioned so they established Birdo as a female and thats why many of us think of Birdo as Female. But if you played the mario game, i forgot which one she appeared in, she first appeared in then that explains why people call her a male

Birdo's gender in the original manual for Super Mario Bros. 2 asserts that Birdo is a boy who believes that he is a girl.
