+Posby95 It's been a baseball rule all the time, the hitter must reach the base if there are 2 out. If there was 1 or nobody out, it would have counted.

theTwiKing Yeah, I made some research last night and I now know. But I still think it's weird. The run should be independent of what happens at first. If when there are less than 2 outs, a runner can advance (not score, just advance e.g. from first to second) on the out, why not record a run on the out when there are 2 outs? I understand advancing on the third out to a base is irrelevant for the scoreboard, but getting home on the third out if it's not a fly ball should be a different story. I know the rules are the rules - I'm just wondering the reasoning behind.
