venkat - I think your only chance to find out IF you are missing anything here - would be for you to intentionally listen to this piece - eyes closed, please - once a month; for 6 months. Then wait to see if you find yourself wanting to listen again. Multiple times in my own life I have been exposed to some new form of music which I did not understand or appreciate at all. But usually, with enough repeated exposure; something in me learned to hear it, and appreciate it. I find this piece pretty sophisticated. If you try my method, and still don't care for it- listen to it again, in 10 years. Really. :-)

I agree with Phillips comment. A lot of music I have tried, I did not like at first. But after giving it a few more tries, I grew to like it more and more. I personally, have always liked a lot of classical instruments from all cultures, but I have yet to listen to one classical artist from Japan that did not pour their heart and soul into the music. I usually am rocking out to some metal, but whenever I see something like this I am drawn to it, sometimes I like to just get swept away to another land through music such as this. Its hard to explain the appeal but there is something very serene about it.

@@vra4432 "i love shakuhachi but don't understand such praises for this" this makes little sense to me. You just said you love the shakuhachi lol. And what praises? I feel like you just gave it more praise than the op by saying you love it. All he said was "feel great". Anyway. I don't agree with Phillip. What he said basically sounds like acquiring a taste. And you can probably acquire a taste for anything but that doesn't make it good. The shakuhachi _is_ good though, reason being is it has such a distinct sound. There's not much like it.

I love this. Such beautiful simplicity. Painting looks to be l8th century. Unsigned, (no 'chop') makes it very hard to attribute. Folds indicate travelling (monk?). Hope this helps. And, who cares what or who is listening? Just enjoy it. DG

It is a painting by Hasegawa Tōhaku. I know that the music of shakuhachi came from Zen Buddhist meditation, and this style of painting seems to me to contain the same spirit. The image serves to suggest or denote the void, as the sound of the shakuhachi also seems to be "the last thing" before the silence, a path to silence.

Chi dice " Allora cosa fa?"? e chi fa ?. @derekgoldsmith8677
@derekgoldsmith8677 8 жыл бұрын
Erik. Yes, in my time I was considered to be knowledgeable but fashions and prices change so quickly. There are several styles of Japanese art. Woodcuts are popular. Hiroshige and Kunisada are top names. Paintings on silk, scrolls and hangings also. And there are the ink and wash paintings, which I love. Calligraphy, too. "Begin Japanology", on youtube is great for an insight to the culture and the only advice I would give is buy what gives you pleasure, because whichever way the prices go, you'll always have a treasure!
