I was studying in Germany in Pfitzner’s centennial year of 1969, and his music was all over the radio. Got to know this sextet and performed it later in concert at Northwestern University.

What a marvelous composition by a truly great composer. Great to see that bit by bit more of his works are again being recorded in our time, for Pfitzner's music deserves to be heard more often

A Mozartean elegance infuses this late work of Pfitzner, relaxing music by a composer totally secure in his art.

I learned about Pfitzner because I was told to hate Pfitzner by my teacher, Richard Taruskin. That just caused me to grow more curious. Pfitzner is truly a master. I understand the political issues, but having looked into it deeply, I feel Pfitzner truly is a GREAT composer who was momentarily self-deceived by world events. Pfitzner was to himself, true.

Try the Consortium Classicum cd for comparison. It is better.
