Quoting Mike Hollis from the final show, the intro of this song always bring tears in my eyes: "10 and a half years ago, i didn't dream i could be here to carry out the final words on the closedown of the worlds biggest and most famous commercial radio station. I'm both honored and sad to a fun farewell and goodbye, after over 59 years of broadcasting. So on behalf of the present Luxy team, and all the past presenters and staff, this is Mike Hollis saying thank you, and may Radio Luxembourg live on forever, in your fondest memories......"

Boy this one takes me back. When I was working nights in the early 1970s, this was always the last thing Luxembourg used to play before it closed down for the night, about 3am. That last hour of broadcasting was about the only time you could hear the station reasonably well! Ah happy days!

Same here, but I'm sure it was Sunny's version and not this? I used to do nights every 6th week at RAF St Mawgan on the Nimrod Line and heard this so many times. Hearing it takes me right back to that time.

This is by far the best version imho. The Sunny Leslie version is painful. I recorded the final 5 hours of Radio Luxembourg on the 30th Of December 1992 and this version was the final song. There was a long pause at the end and then the German service kicked in. I was actually a little emotional because all my life I’d listened to Radio Luxembourg. It had always fascinated me that it was coming from a foreign country and all of a sudden it was finished. To this day I’ve never found anything quite like Radio Luxembourg. I guess I never will. Thank you Luxembourg for many happy years listening.

That must have been giving a really sad ambiance. With the last three songs being Steve Conway's *_"At the End of the Day,"_* Neil Sedaka's *_"Our Last Song Together,"_* and finally, *_"Maybe the Morning"_* by Marion Montgomery, it gives the right feel of saying goodbye to an era in British radio. And British television was facing a huge upheaval at the time, with four ITV regional television stations coming to an end. They were Thames Television, Television South West, Television South, and TV-am closing the next night, New Year's Eve 1992. An era of regionalism for TV coming to an end, with corporate consolidation for British TV coming with Carlton in the 1990s and early-2000s. It's the same feel. Just my honest opinion.

Tripp1993 Indeed Tripp1993. You’re right. There was TV-am closing, Thames, TVS and TSW. Also Oracle teletext service too. It wasn’t a good move on the ITCs part to award Carlton TV the London weekday licence. Losing Thames TV dint benefit ITV. London would soon lose another icon in the form of the original LBC. It’s licence was awarded to London News Radio in 1993 to commence in the October of 1994. So unsuccessful was that brand that the company relaunched LBC 2 years after taking over from the original LBC. Going back to Radio Luxembourg tho, I still think it could have an audience even on medium wave, just like Radio Caroline in the South East of England has on 648kHz. I wonder if Radio Caroline will seek permission to use either 1053 and 1089 (TalkSport) or 1215 (Absolute) when they vacate medium wave to give Radio Caroline full nationwide coverage on AM?

@@ASgfjyhgyi I'm sorry about this, but I thought that I could use this quote to remember the final moments of Radio Luxembourg. I thought it was a nice touch. It was just one of those times of upheavals in any field. 1992 was a very strange upheaval year because of British television's transition, the sincere services at the time closed down forever, replaced by consolidated ones, and Radio Luxembourg's conclusion. I hope this wasn't out of context, though.

@@ASgfjyhgyi Only a few seconds. Plus, if you wondered what the final speech and song mean, in my honest opinion, this song has a quite melancholy feeling and an "end of an era" feeling. In the case of the last week of 1992, I think this song's context here means that even though the European radio station was no more, the memories of the happiness they felt listening to them will remain in their hearts and minds forever, hence the final speech and the final performance of this classic. It meant they were concluding an era for so many Europeans and Britons. They had grown up listening to this station from their childhoods to their adulthood. They had listened to it's programming. In a nutshell: this was their farewell song.

@@Tripp1993 It means as much to me as hearing the old Pirate Radio ship Radio London closing down on the afternoon of August 14th 1967, playing out with A Day In The Life by The Beatles. How poignant? I'll never forget.
