On the subject of materials, I live in the pine tree state, and I carve OBSESSIVELY! Let me know if you'd like me to send you some bits and pieces. I tend to make anatomically accurate legs and arms.. for the most part.

I see this is three years old. I suggest the Land Link, a method of joints by Scott Land, of Team America fame. Scott looked for a simple method for joints that gave the free movement he wanted, strong ,easy to make, and cheap. He saw plastic chain at the hardware store and thought it was worth a shot. It met all the criteria. They even functioned correctly for movement. They can be used with wood, resin, you name it. He simply takes a link, cuts it, drills hole, or however you want it attached, and CA glue, or epoxy, and you have a fantastic joint. The plastic links also can be used as arms if you want loose arms.

I have a Sally marionette puppet whose legs etc are attached to her body with a stretch type string. her leg string broke and I'm not sure how to fix her since her joints use string vs hinges
