Dream and Techno are my favorite characters in the SMP. They're really cool characters, Dream is like that one anime villain nobody can beat because he's too smart, and Techno's like that one anime protagnist that isn't scared of the villain and can't be manipulated.

I see Techno more as a retired God. Like an anti-hero who is neutral most of the time and doesnt have any clear goals. They’re both equally matched to me but only fight when its business related. I dont see dream as unstoppable because of how intimidated his character is by Tommy.

Not really related to the animatic so here goes a weird metaphor thing kind of: Dream is a puppet master and everyone on the smp has strings that dream can controll, however, some strings are far thinner than others and some strings are tangled with others. Taking this into consideration Techno has very thin strings thus cannot be manipulated as much as say Tubbo could, and tommy's strings are currently tangled with techno meaning he can't control tommy without the risk of techno's strings being broken.

I just realized, Tommy is the only one struggling within Dreams grasp? When he’s all strung up, he’s shaking and resisting this. I mean, it’s true. Tommy is the only person who fights Dream. Oh, and Techno had his strings cut, which definitely means that he was used by Dream, but he’s really a force to be reckoned with and can’t really be controlled (unless you peer pressure him, though that might be what the string before it was cut made him do).

@@sadiemorgan4389 and I (as someone with ptsd from a similar experience to Tommy) really like how they’re showing it. It makes sense for him to be insistent on claiming things as “his” because he wasn’t allowed to keep his things. His wariness and hesitance remind me of myself in the early stages of my recovery. Also, people sometimes make PTSD into a joke, and I’m really glad that they aren’t. They’re giving it the respect it merits, and the way Techno is treating Tommy is EXACTLY what he needs right now: he’s not treating him like glass or like he’ll break at any moment, but he’s keeping an eye out for warning signs like when Tommy says that Dream is his friend, and gently guiding him away from it. It’s not making Tommy feel like he’s lesser for having fallen, and despite not having much of a support network, he’s still able to make progress, especially since Techno gave him a concrete goal.

i see it more as, dream can predict what techno will do, and can use that to his advantage, but he cant really control him as much as others. if you look, there are ropes on techno, but they aren't very prominent and it doesn't look as though he's being controlled.

@@stellak179 I heard someone else mention that his strings are tangled with Tommy’s so if dream manipulates Tommy too much he’ll accidentally cut off techno’s strings as well. Techno isn’t controlled by dream but it’s probably the favor that is keeping him in ties with him. Although Dream has a weak broken string attached to Techno, he cant risk losing it because Techno is his strongest “doll”.

I'm gonna write a whole essay about Dream's character and the SMP's development because I feel like it When the SMP first started, it was probably at it's best point. There wasn't much conflict, Sapnap wasn't killing pets to often, and they had a set of rules in place with punishments if broken. But when Tommy joined, Dream didn't realize that those rules could no longer be kept in place after the first war started. It was in this war that Dream had a major change in character, his character went from a dude that was just playing with this friend to a power corrupt phsycopath. Yes, it was subtle at the time but still noticeable. Then his character took another major change when L'manburg was created. He wanted all the power so he declared war on L'manburg. He had his reasons though, it was his land and he wanted it back, simple as that. After the deal with Tommy this is when he realized that he had complete power. Sure, L'manburg was free and sure people didn't obey the rules of the server but he finally realized that all he needs to have full control over L'manburg and everyone within it is the discs. Tommy cares about the discs and Dream knew that if he had possession of them then he could control everyone with just a little bit of manipulation. When Schlatt won the election, Dream stayed on the sidelines. He knew that he had to wait to make his move so he became a "sponser" for Pogtopia while still remaining neutral. During this time, Dream knew that if he wanted power he would need to play smart, and at that time joining Pogtopia was the smartest option. When Schlatt made the deal with Dream (which we still don't know what it was) It made Dream switch sides immediately, showing that he never cared for Pogtopia or anyone in it considering that fact that he switched sides so quickly. During the Manburg vs Pogtopia war, when Dream realized that Manburg was losing he knew that he had to surrender for them, it was the smarted option. But, he wouldn't give up that easily. Using Wilbur's corrupted mental state to his advantage, he made a deal with Wilbur that no matter what happened, Wilbur would blow up L'manburg. After L'manburg was blown up Dream knew that now he just had to wait until someone in L'manburg did something stupid so he could strike again. And of course, everything went to plan after Tommy and Ranboo burned down George's house. Dream now could use this as an excuse to separate the two closest people on the server. Dream knew that Tubbo wouldn't just exile Tommy under his command, so he had to do a bit of manipulation and threats. This ended up working as Tubbo ended up exiling Tommy and now Dream's plan was in motion. Though everything going to plan so far, Dream knew he had to get mellohi, so he had to pretend to be Tubbo's friend. He also manipulated Tommy a lot during exile, pretending to be Tommy's friend so Tommy would never fight back. Of course this part of the plan didn't work out but it was just a minor dent, the damage would be easy to prepare. After Tommy ran away, Dream knew where he was, he just pretending to not, you know, for fun. Then, when someone burned down the community house, Dream snapped considering that it was the last memory of the past, before everything. Dream blamed it on Tommy and he realized that now out of all times would be the best time to get the disc. Dream was done playing nice, he started shouting at Tubbo to give him the disc and was able to cause more conflict between everyone. After Tommy and Tubbo's fight, Tommy told Tubbo to give the disc to Dream. And after Dream got the disc, he had succeeded. He was now done pretending. He basically told everyone that he manipulated two minors for power. After teaming with Techno, they were able to destroy L'manburg, for good this time. Everything had gone to plan, he hadn't finished yet but the first part was complete, L'manburg was gone. But now there was just one person standing between him and his main goal, and he knew that with the discs he can easily reach that goal, and kill a few people along the way. Wow, I have an English essay due soon but this is what I do in my spare time. Also how come Dream's character has such an obssession with manipulating minors, the three people he manipulated the most were Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo, apparently minors are just really fun to manipulate

"power is my best friend" with Tommy teaming with techno, one of the most powerful players on the server?? the beautiful turn around dream raising his axe before cutting to him in an undeniably creepy puppeteer pose, and a chilling face, during "you're all my marrionettes"??? "I will bring this nation to an end with tUBBO FINDING TOMMY'S TOWER?!???!!!!!??? "they yelled a final goodbye" as Tommy is discovered?!? The horrible irony of "a hatchet buried in their grave" with Tubbo and Tommy being unable to make peace!!!!???!? All amazing!!! Nevermind the general awesome art style, all of dream's vicious, victorious grins, the FACES in general, and ohhhh I forgot about dream knocking over wilbur's chess piece ohhhhhhh man oh man you are too good. I love the subtle details! Like how Nikki and Tubbo are connected with 2 strings, tommy is resisting the strings he's connected too, and techno is has a cut string on him! and towards the end tommy has more and more strings tying him down! ahh and at the end tubbo is the one on the strings with tommy largely having broken his! (so good)

Great video!!!! I don't know if anyone noticed but when dream showed up at techno's house you can tell he knew Tommy was there. He'd already succeed in dividing Tommy and his friends away from each other, he was just playing a game of cat and mouse.

After watching this I've only just realised dream was never a side character he is the main this is just his little game of pretend his own world where he can do what he likes it has always has gone his way whether or not he wanted it to, its amazing how everyone really is just a puppet to him a character through and through even us as the watchers have fell for his strings and in his little world thinking he is a side out of the scene just there its amazing really.

small detail at 1:39 Tommy's the only one who is moving or trying to move as seen by the little lines beside his body. while the others were not moving symbolising that they have resigned to their fate, tommy is still resisting Dream's rule. that's just my thought but its so cool.

I love how in the middle when it was showing the dream amp mebers in red strings as if to signify they are puppets, all of them were tightly wound except for techno who only had one piece of string on on hand, meaning the only thing dream controls of techno is the "favour"
