Have you had a chance to visit Costa Mesa’s first butterfly garden yet? On Tuesday, January 30 Mayor John Stevens along with City Council Members Manuel Chavez and Loren Gameros unveiled "Mariposa Garden,” which features the first City-funded public art project along with newly planted flora designed to attract a variety of butterflies. Four large butterfly sculptures and several smaller butterflies created by renowned artist Marisabel Bazan, who has titled the sculptures “La Magia de Colleta” are featured in the garden.
Mariposa Garden is located on a hillside adjacent to Marina View Park located at 1035 W. 19th St. ICYMI, here’s the unveiling ceremony that took place last Tuesday. While work is underway to create additional CostaMazing butterfly gardens throughout the city, in the meantime we urge everyone to “migrate” over and take a close up look as Mariposa Garden becomes filled with colorful fluttering visitors in the months and years ahead.
