Percy, short for Perseus (that's the guy who killed Medusa, son of Zeus), is the son of Posiedon, and begins the series off at 12 years old. Monsters out of Greek mythology start coming after him, so he's taken to a summer camp for demigods. He's given a prophecy, a quest and 2 companions. Seeing as you haven't read it, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
