Great move! This is common in most countries as legislation but has never been the case in the US due to profits being far more important than health in the heavily segmented and private driven system. The Us lacks economies of scale (ironically) because of the fragmentation. As Mark shows, his company is large enough to claw back economies of scale. But go somewhere much smaller than the US like Australia, and it’s the government that steps in to negotiate and bring down prices well below even what Mark’s company can. Many US studies into other foreigners system This is why the US sadly still has among the most expensive and overpriced pharmaceutical prices requiring companies like Mark’s to step in. If the US implemented system similar to what all other first world countries already have in place, the US would potentially have the cheapest rather than most expensive pharmaceuticals. Although in a way, the US’s high prices and US citizens are subsidising rest of developed world
