Title is misleading! To make 300 employees millionaires Mark would have had to give out $300 million. If he gave 300 employees $35 million then that gets them just over 100k which is probably a year’s salary and part of their severance package.

How athletes are viewed is subjective. Professional athletes are entertainers. There are generally compensated by based on their contribution to their respective industries. Consequently, sports fans derive some degree of entertainment value from being sports fans and the revenues generated from sports irrefutable reflects that outcome. If you mean by contributing nothing to society, that they are not doctors, nurses, teachers, sanitation workers, etc, whose contributions directly benefit society and moves society forward, then yes as athlete's purpose is not fill that role in society. They are entertainers.

The main reason this doesn't happen as much anymore is due to low taxes. When tax rates were higher they would do this as a write off. Now they don't have to do this, they keep it all for themselves. Mark understands that no matter how great or revolutionary a business idea is, it still requires employees to show up every day and do a good job. If more companies understood this we wouldn't have the wealth and income disparity that we have today.
