Mark Free - Someday You'll Come Running
Album: Long Way From Love
We play a game of touch and go
Your door is open but your heart is closed
I heal your hurts and pay the price
You walk away and you don't think twice
Maybe I'm just a fool
Who always answers when you call
Baby, who else will shelter you
When the rain begins to fall
Someday you'll come running to me
When you know it's a prison, being free
Someday you'll stop chasing your dreams
Someday you'll come running
You'll come running to me
Too much of you I live without
Our bodies speak but not our mouths
I can see his shadow in your eyes
But I don't ask where you've been tonight
I pick up the pieces
Every time you fall apart
Baby, but I keep tripping
On the pieces of my heart
Someday you'll come running to me
When you know it's a prison, being free
Someday you'll stop chasing your dreams
Someday you'll come running
You'll come running to me
When the wind blows colder
No one to care, no one to hold you
Love's not a road of no returning
Just look around
The fire's still burning
Someday you'll come running to me
When you know it's a prison, being free
Someday you'll stop chasing your dreams
Someday you'll come running
You'll come running to me

I will always remember the late afternoon I recorded this performance. It was about six thirty in evening. I was being paid as a session singer to come in and do a song demo for my friends the songwriters Robin and Judithe Randall. I had never heard the song before. But that's the way most all of the song writer demos I did over the years usually went. I came to the studio, learned the melody by Robin humming it to me during playback in the control room. After about three or four times through I went out and started tracking the lead and background vocals and was done in about three takes and less than two and a half hours. It was recorded in Jeff Silverman's home studio and was never intended to be a record of mine. There was no time, no budget, and really no reason for me or anyone involved to scrutinize or perfect the performances. Most of the musicians on the track were students of Robins where she taught at the Musicians Institute of Technology in Hollywood. The fact that it has been acclaimed by so many over the years is an incredible honor to me and everyone involved. And for the record and for those future fans to come long after I'm gone. Here is some more trivia you may find interesting. Every song on this record (Long Way From Love) were all "song demos". Very little or No budget. Robin could not have been making much more than five or six hundred dollars per week at her teaching job. If that. She supported her sick Mother and helped support her Grandmother. Most all of the tracks were done in home studios with extremely limited technology and abilities. Sometimes it was on a 24 track machine. Those were the good times. Some were only 16 tracks. Each with different mixing boards, pre-amps and or vocal mics etc...long before digital recording machines and handy outboard gear like auto tune. Recorded over a period starting in summer 1987 till around the middle of 1990. During these times I was being hired as a session singer and was required to learn the songs on the spot and rush them out due to such little money the songwriters had and as a way to help my dear friends Robin and Judithe get their songs demoed. Never in my wildest imagination did I think they would ever be heard by anyone other than record company A&R reps or band managers looking for cover songs for their artists next record. Let alone all the world for posterity! Oh and one other thing I almost forgot... Robin has not been paid a dime for the sales of this record in over 15 years. Apart from the little money Robin and Judithe paid me for the demo sessions I have not received any money for the sales since its release in the fall of 1993. Exactly who does receive your hard earned money when you purchase this record is still a mystery to us all? But I digress. In the end i guess I am still somewhat astonished at the positive response the record has generated and am truly and honorably humbled for every fan of this record. Love & light always, Marcie. xoxo

This is actually Chris Bogan (I'm Jane's husband). Thanks Marcie for that comment below. I have recently got into AOR music, and your name keeps popping up everywhere. I had heard of you before, but I didn't know about your history (both professional and personal). So glad you are still around, You have a gift- blessed with an awesome voice. I truly enjoy your music. Thanks Marcie! :)

I'm a huge fan of the Brit AOR sound but I have to adnitt that only Mark Free can stand the comparison with he British milestones(Virginia Wolf/ FM// Heartland/ Dare/ Strangeways/ Atlantic etc) I still insist tho, that this version is superior compared to FM's or even Airkraft's one.

IMO - the Airkraft version is the best of the bunch, its very similar to this one here. The FM version to me is the one that sounds awkward. To each his own =)

@sweetheart6969 yes the arrangment is awkward after hearing the fm version. Something about the modulation in both choruses sounds strange. I have learned to like this version a lot tho. Also some of the melody lines are messed up

What do you feel marcy about those who says fm steve,s version is better? well im shame to say i,ll like it better to BUT as you discribe the recording was a low budget you did and in not mutch time at all. it,s really grait in that circumstances.I cant say you did it bad, its really grait.and if you had the budget and time to hone it as like fm did , ill Think this could been ever better, but its still the original, and its hard to passby.its still a song i like and remember from my early Life.regards a Swedish aor fan

This one has the best vocals but not the best music; FM's music is more rockin'; put FM's music with Mark Free's voice and you have the perfect match/version of this song IMO. I like this one the best though.
