Absolute legend, despite his mucking around he actually had an incredible singing voice and if you can find clips of him singing with Elvis’ backing group you will be VERY pleasantly surprised. RIP Freddie 🙏🏼 your end was tragic and you deserved better from the British press .

Freddie Starr (real name Frederick Fowell), arguably the VERY BEST all round entertainers the UK has ever seen! The man could tell jokes, dance, sing, impersonate, and even do his own stunts! One in a million he was, and much missed! RIP Freddie!

My parents took me to see him in the 80's, I remember his story about going to the butchers to buy a dozen sausages, he didn't have a bag so he put them down his trousers and when he got home he had 13....the way he told it was hilarious!

Freddie was a comedian who was unpredictable and would frighten the audience to death! He was also a great singer the Jordanaires came and did a guest spot on his show and they said he was the best Elvis impersonator they had met. He also acted from being a child to being a young man in old British films. He was however a bit of an unsavoury character even his friends admitted you couldn’t really trust him, one comedian friend said he used to do things like pee up your leg if the mood took him, to him these things were hilarious.

Good morning, good afternoon Mark. Freddie Star was on a lot of live shows when I was younger. He was always a bit 'off the wall' and never seemed to follow the plot the others had rehearsed. Perhaps I was too young or too stuffy to appreciate his comedy UNTIL this morning when I laughed until I cried at his antics. Thank you for this lovely time. My chest hurts through laughing so much, so I think I need a nice cup of tea, and an English biscuit, before I sit back down and watch your next video.

As I understand it his career and life ended in controversy. For me he was a kind of crossover artist from the vaudeville/slapstick era (eg. Max Wall’s physicality on stage) and the incoming era of ‘alternative’ comedy. Freddie wrote and coordinated his own stuff, so he didn’t have a team of writers. I wasn’t a massive fan but this version of Vincent is one the all-time great British comedy sketches. He also had the great Mohammed Ali in the palm of his hand during a talk show called Parkinson on which both Freddie and Ali were guests.

By ‘this version’ I mean Freddie’s finished product, not other people doing it. There are other versions of the act which are far less subtle and rely on a more apish performance.
