Enjoyable reaction video. I was quite surprised to see my neighbourhood being the topic! Yes, some of us live in New Bond Street. My neighbours rent their apartment (£23,000 per month). Fortunately I brought many years ago.

I enjoyed this video today. I didn't know the history of Bond Street even though, for years, I liked to walk up and down this street during my lunch hours when working nearby. So this was really interesting to me - and a trip down memory lane. Thank you. When I am tested about American writers I will be using your words to apologise for MY lack of knowledge about your writers!! LOL

Mark. Bond Street in London is not the only place with the name, or similar. There are several places near me in Yorkshire that have streets called Bond Gate, including here in Selby, but also Pontefract, & others. The name in these cases is said to refer to 'Bonded' labourers, that is people 'bound' to the place as peasants. They were unable to leave the township they lived in without permission of the local Lord of the Manor. Ports, such as Scarborough etc, had Bonded Warehouses, where imported goods on which an import tax was paid, like wine & other luxury goods, were locked up to prevent theft. In Scarborough in the 19th century the vaults beneath the new built Market building served this purpose. Bond Street, London is noteworthy as the centre of the Jewellery business, including underground security vaults, one of which was famously robbed by a group of 'retiring' thieves, as depicted since in a film starring Michael Caine.

The centre of the jewellery business in London is Hatton Garden which is nowhere near Bond Street (it's in the Borough of Camden as opposed to Westminster). The film with Michael Caine, King of Thieves (2018), was set at Hatton Garden. Bond Street has posh shops, of which, unsurprisingly, some are jewellers. I think a bit of confusion has crept in.

Hi Mark , All the what I call the posh shops way out of my price range in that area of London . Jane Austen is probably more well known in the US Mark so I'm not surprised your not familiar with the Bronte sisters 😊.

The auction house where they held the exhibition of the entire contents of Freddie Mercury home last summer, over the whole three floors 1500 lots and around 30,000 items he had been given or collected, over the month some 150,000 visited, which is roughly the same amount as their last live concert with Freddie at Knebworth in 1986. Total amount raised around thirty million pounds, and I don't think this includes the fees etc, similarly Garden Lodge went onto the market for offers over this amount earlier this year, unsure if it's been sold yet

@@MarkfromtheStates front of the auction house looked slightly different for that month, huge moustache over the door, which Fred would've found funny

When I started work in 1963 the second firm I worked for was in 9 Clifford Street W1 a firm of Solicitors and every morning I used to travel to Bond Street underground station and down that very long road New Bond Street a very busy area and expensive to, at night was a different matter the first night on return I got to Bond Street station were they had closed the gates not allowing anyone down on to the platform on account that all the people who had been doing their shopping in Harrods, Marks and Sparks, HMV & Selfridges and many others, were on their way home so it was a case off retracing ones step via Davies Street, Berkeley Square, Berkeley Street, and Piccadilly to Green Park Station which you can do well without after gruelling day at the office and the other no-no was the cost of lunch almost had to get a bank loan to pay for it, up there every thing is expensive shops then were fleecing the tourist, shoppers and workers alike.

😮😮😮😮😮 Shock Horror... You didn't know Emily Brontë wrote Wuthering Heights... W O W Mark!! I hate sport except for Equestrian sports: Showjumping, Cross-Country, Racing, Dressage, Showing (both in-hand and under saddle)... _Panniers_ are bags / often like satchels, often slung over the front , (looped on the pommel) or behind a saddle - attached to the 'D' rings there,(equine, or bicycle / motorbike) carrying foods or belongings...and yes, you pronounced it correctly, Mark.

Remember Mark bond street and the surrounding area, have the type of shops that do not display prices, if you have to go in and ask the price you can't afford it. 😁

Afternoon Mark- listen mate you are not a moron! Far from it- we can't know everything ! The Brontes are well known here as I suppose Longfellow and Henry James are to Americans- we had to study the Brontes and Dickens at school along with Shakespeare so that's how they came to me- otherwise probably would know less than you ! Besides bet there are lots more people here that know nought about them - keep well with the cats x

In the name of God Mark, why should an American with all your home grown literature need to know about the Bronte's. I was forced to do them for A level at school and hated them. And I'm British!! They are almost unreadable. Give me Jane Austen anytime!!!!
