Literally same. I've almost exclusively traveled for school trips though, so it's a lot of people to get through security and 2 hours before the flight is the best time to get there. Even if I were traveling by myself or something I would probably get to the airport 2 hours early.

My parents always took us on great vacations, but he always wanted early flights, like 5 or 6 am, to be there 2 or 3 hours early, and we were 40 minutes away. Waking up at midnight to 2am when we were all packed up sucked, but that's the only downside to what they did for us

I have had this service both before and after I was wheelchair bound. It does make you feel weird in front of other people but it is nice. Most of the times it was because I was flying alone with young kids or someone noticed my husband was in the military. The people doing the service are always so nice and love to talk smack about what airlines suck.

I had a similar experience at universal studios. My family had this American express vip pass thing. You get a tour guide and get to walk around sets but you get some pass to skip all queues on the rides. When we were shown how to use them the guide walked us to the biggest ride there went to the disabled queue and pushed past people in wheelchairs and very ill children getting us the front....as English people we felt very uncomfortable skipping queues let alone pushing what felt like make a wish kids out the way

I was at Disney land and had a panic attack cause my dumb ass decided to go on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride with a phobia of the ocean. I thought I would be fine and we were on a school choir trip so I didn't want to let my friends down by not wanting to go on the ride. anyways, I had a panic attack, so we had to find my teacher since I needed to get medication to help me calm down. our choir teacher (who was supposed to carry all medications at all times) apparently forgot my meds at the hotel. So she had to take me out of the park, and the staff escorted us on a golf cart through the back tunnels or whatever. I don't remember a whole lot of it, but it was such a surreal experience being back there.

45 minutes before the flight?! 😱😱😱 I'm like Wade - two hours MINIMUM. Especially for a really big airport!! Boarding starts 30 minutes before a flight, and getting through security is way more often long and slow than it's not. And then you have to make your way through the airport to the gate! I've never been to LAX (that I remember), but DFW... Atlanta... O'Hare... JFK... all the big airports take time to get through. 😫 I mean, obviously not in THIS case, but he's talking like 45 minutes is normal for him...

Honestly just occasionally accept the VIP treatment Mark. I mean you had to make your flight for sure to get back to work more essentially. People here (Canada) have that express clearance to get through TSA so just view it as a fast track when you're having to get back quickly. I'm definitely getting that express clearance thing for flights if I need to fly back and forth a lot (potentially to LA but more likely Toronto to Vancouver and back.)

That's pretty insightful into how they move "known entities" through the airports - interesting! Of course, unless someone is REALLY world famous like, I don't know, suppose Paul McCartney is there or something, or Tom Hanks or whatever - the REALITY is that I honestly don't think anyone will notice or pay attention to you in that setting - and the reason I say that is because when you are in the airport, waiting in line, HOPING to get to your gate in time, the LAST thing on your mind is "I wonder what youtuber I might see in line - maybe I can say hi" - like, I've NEVER had that thought enter my head. I don't even LOOK at the faces of the people around me, honestly - I'll just look at the line in general and maybe at the back of the person in front of me but I'm never looking at FACES - so the reality is, I would recognize Mark online, sure - if I'm sitting in a Starbucks and he comes in and sits right across from me and says Hi, I might do a double take but think "nah, probably just a guy who looks like him" - because, you know, the setting is weird and you don't EXPECT to see that person from online right there in front of you - but in an AIRPORT? Man, I don't care if Bill Clinton just did backflips down the hall right by me, I don't care, I'm ALWAYS running late and I'd say "weird, but I need to get my f'ing flight"- and like 98% of other people are pretty much in the same mode. So. I kind of feel like that whole secret way around thing is 100% unnecessary for all but the most massive movie stars.

This is literally true. While I was in Orlando, I overslept I was terrified. I was going to miss my flight, so I called ahead and had the same thing happen. I am nobody, but I didn’t have someone taking me around they just took me to the area and said you know go from here, so knowing I was running late, I bolted. I had all my luggage, my carry-on purse I was wearing Mickey crocs. My hair was all over the place. I had the make up I slept in the night before. I was a hot mess, and when I turned around to see if my husband Was keeping up, I slammed into someone! I looked down and it was an old man! I started freaking out asking if he was OK and then he started laughing. He helped me up and I thought I had just killed someone so I kept apologizing and I should’ve known by the laugh. It was Christopher Lloyd, he asked me if I was OK I said yes and I was more worried about him, and he said he was fine. And then after he stop laughing, he said this was the funniest thing that it happened to them all day! He was very nice.

"Damn Southwest guys always come in hot!" Mark and his friends, along with most normal people dont get it, but us Avgeeks, we get it. For those who dont get it, Southwest pilots taxi their 737s at ungodly fast speeds

This happened to me on accident for free once? I was transferring through an airport in NYC (laguardia I think? Idr) and I was desperately rushing to get to my gate, and my bag opens and some of my clothes spills out. I burst into tears putting them away, knowing I couldn't make it now. A random stewardess saw me and asked if I needed help. I just kind of blurted out what was happening and she was like "that's one of my flights, hold on" and she gets on the radio while she just guides me into one of those "DO NOT ENTER" doors. It was like, just a weird concrete hallway all while she's saying like "we don't usually do this, but..." and ill be damned if she didn't get me there in time 😂 it all happened so fast

I feel like I would recognize Mark, Bob, or Wade instantly if they ever came through my airport, but we aren't allowed to make a big issue about that kind of thing.

Just trust the people escorting you. It's helping them more then it's helping you. Plus sometimes the whole escort experience gives an employee a break from the chaos that probably is his job.
