I, and i believe most other United fans were very happy when we signed Maguire... But back then, i did personally think there was a bit of the standard media hype on the guy, and therefore thought the transfer fee was very inflated, because when i heard the dude was going to cost £80 mill., first thing i asked myself was "If Chelsea paid around £35 mil. for a 25 year old Kante who was one of the very main factors on Leicester's title season, why are we paying more than double that for a 26 year old on a mid-table Leicester team, just because he had a decent WC".

To be fair, at the time MU was desperate to stabilize their back line, and for the tactics Ole usually employed for Maguire's first two seasons, he (and Wan Bissaka) were quite successful. In my mind, Maguire as a player worthy of singling out for negative attention came in his third season. The big transfer fee is not on Harry, that is on the MU back room.

Yes, i can't remember if this is absolute accurate but the fee i think most people considered it to be hyper inflated. Though the comparison with him costing more than Van Dijk and therefore according to the value that means Man UTD rated him higher , i never agreed with totally because although he did cost more, had Van Dijk moved in the same season as Maguire then his market value probably would have been between £110-£130 million. From what i remember his 1st season was ok and maybe even his 2nd was ok but after the Greek thing went down that seemed to contribute to his total collapse until even i was like, yeh time for you to go :(
