Slade dodged a bullet with The Last House on the Left Remake. Hard Candy was brilliant, and I adored Elliot’s character. It’s so rare to get a decent inversion of the trope, and Hard Candy was spectacular with it.

I watched it on BBC iplayer a while back. Kudos to the BBC for showing it.

@gibboanx I know and i am happy he was. Page is a fantastic young actress. A Meryl Streep in making.

The film maybe unfocused in parts, however the film’s well acted, stylish, intense, realistic & very well directed. (78%) (4/5 stars) (positive)

@TheEvilelvis89 I was questioning you about the properties of those who flay. Would Ian Beale be concerned with they?

@TulseLuper I see your on the thatguywiththeglasses forum. which reviews do you like on it?

Ah, you didn't include the best bit, when Mayo tries to force Kermode to pick an alternate Movie of the Week.

This film is so devilishly tense. :D

@badhead Well I'm a big fan of the Nostalgia Critic and I quite like Bad Movie Beatdown. I haven't explored much else though, and I'm not crazy about Bum Reviews or Ask That Guy.

I'm not surprised if women liked that movie, if only because they could show it to their male friends and say "See? This is how women get treated in other movies *all the time*".

@mrfrostynova First off, in no way was this film "trashy". It was well written, beautifully shot, and artfully scored. Was it hard enjoy in places? Absolutely, and entirely appropriately and by design. As for it being depressing, how is that a criticism? The negative spectrum of emotion is not excluded from the cinematic experience.

I saw it on video... and it is a hard movie to watch, and completely non-exploitational. There is perhaps an equation made between photographers who take photos of naked children with their consent, and the consent of their parents', like Jock Sturges or David Hamilton, and child pornographers, but it's reasonable Ellen Page's character makes that equation. It's a false one, but in reasonable in character.

I didn't like this film, Ellen Page did act very well but holy shit did her character piss me off:L yes the guy deserved it but she was just so annoying and I wasn't rooting for her just. Either character was Unlikeable.

This film infuriated me. To this day, it's the only film that left me shouting 'NO!' as the credits rolled. A pretentious and deeply unsatisfying ending. That's topping off what is consistently a needlessly horrible and self-indulgent flick to the Nth degree. She's a wonderful actress (just look at Juno) but even now when I see Ellen Page I tense in anger for how much I hated her fucking character in this film.
@andrewfender353910 жыл бұрын
i personally loved it, partly for those reasons you described. i think you're *supposed* to dislike her character (or at least she's not supposed to be seen as this white-knight, heroin of feminism). the film plays with the grey areas between predator and prey, and questions the audience as to whether or not what she did was in fact right, and the same for the male character.
@Thecuregalore9410 жыл бұрын
men boongg It was just vapid, self-indulgent smug role reversal. I didn't hate the film as an entity, but the plot and Ellen Page's character was crass and dubious at best, PAINSTAKINGLY overkill and smug at worst. I'm struggling to put into words how much this film jarred on me, and not in a hard-hitting, 'ooh that's brutish and cold' resonant manner. As in a 'this was made to annoy people and feed the director's sense of edgy self-importance'. Infuriating :/

Thecuregalore94 interesting, i suppose i can sort of see why someone might look at the film in that way, but i think that's a great shame and i feel as if you're missing out on something..! nevermind!
@Thecuregalore9410 жыл бұрын
men boongg Perhaps I am, a lot of people have really enjoyed this film. I have seen, however, a few people feeling the same way about it as I do. It's divisive, and there's nothing wrong with that - just a shame it came across so badly in my eyes and that can't be changed.
@andrewfender353910 жыл бұрын
Thecuregalore94 that's very true. it's sometimes good to have a film that splits opinions so strongly!
