For me the greatest scene and it makes me cry is when Paddington is alone at the train station and Mary approach’s Paddington “Hello there” that whole scene gets me every time...So beautiful and Sally Hawkins shines brighter than even Poppins

Loved it, loved it, loved it, totally loved it!! Such a clever, witty, charming film that in no way patronised the younger audience and completely embraced the older audience. There was hardly a moment where was not laughing, or giggling at some of the wee in jokes. My 2 girl (aged 8 and 11) also thought it was brilliant. My only complaint is that there were too many people in the Glasgow world of cine that did not adhere to the wittertainment code of conduct. Stay in your seat, and wheesht please!

I like how Kermode completely ignored Mayo's Wes Anderson question.

When I was a kid I always imagined Paddington sounding vaguely Spanish, since he was from Peru and I didn't know what Peruvian Spanish sounded like. I guess if he learnt to speak from an English explorer rather than any of the people near his forest, that explains his accent!

Just listen to Peruvian vídeos. We, Peruvians have different accents, depending on the region.

A lovely movies watched with my two boys, then took my 83 year old mum to see it. I think the themes of acceptance kindness and embracing people from elsewhere. (Mr Gruber was supposed to be from the kinder transport in the 30s). Really wish I had a hard stare to match his.

The bears lose their home in a scene that is reminiscent of The Blitz. It was a powerful way to pay homage to the origins of the Paddington books, the way all the children in the war were in the train station with their addresses pinned to them, hoping a family could take them in for the duration of the war. My grandmother who survived the Blitz cried when we watched the old stop motion version of Paddington in the 80's, she remembered all the children in the train station sitting on their suitcases like Paddington. The movie makes call backs to this Blitz origin, but not in a blatant way that would be too rough for children to see and it never takes it out of the modern time period. Such an incredible movie!

is it because i am a non-native speaker or they just talk really fast? i had to use 0.75 playback rate to make out the scripts around 4:26 : "would he've made london a bit like that there were just a few moments where i mean i know you weren't a huge fan of..." this is just one of the devastating moments when i realise the chasm between native and non-native speakers...

I saw it and I reviewed it on my page too. The movie was cute, innocent and light-hearted and that was entertaining enough for me as a family film.

The bear talks in the cartoon. Though the narrator. For example. " I'm looking for toast to have with my Marmalade."

Zelnyair Yeah, I think it was a good call to make Paddington look more realistic and not cartoony. If he'd looked too cartoonish, it would have drawn too many comparisons to the Smurfs, Garfield, the Chipmunks, et. al.

I haven't seen the film yet, and i will.. Probably twice... But i haven't heard Mark beaming about a childrens film so much since Nanny McPhee a film that i've seen multiple times and still stands up to multiple viewings. (and incidentally the director Kirk Jones went to my rival comp. school, so i really should hate it, but i just can't)

Why did she want to kill Paddington ❓ Would not a live talking bear 🐻 be more valuable ?

Considering nobody in that world seems to bat an eyelid at any point about a talking bear I doubt it.

He recorded some voice work for the film before the director realised his voice was simply too old for the character.
