@MatsEvensen7 жыл бұрын
He is not underrated. Every known bassplayer in US knows about him and he has big respect in the whole world. I don't know about a bassplayer who is that famous in all over Europe and Asia. But one thing is for sure, people will never stop comparing bassplayers against each other no matter what style they play

I think what he means by underrated is the fact that not everyone realise just how good he is. It's a compliment he is making and I agree with him.

This guy and L42 has inspired me for years, and I`m seconds away from selling my drumkit and get me a bass and an amp, and learn how to play this brilliant instrument! I will never be as good as Mark, but if I can learn half of this I`ll be happy as a clam...

Very cool playing and explanations of techniques..he makes it look easy and very much down plays his abilities.I think a combo of good genes and a hell of a lot of practice and hard work and of course the right band to encourage him got to were he is today. You are awesome mark and have been a influence on me since I first heard ya in 1981! over here in Canada.Keep it up.I hope you come back to North America soon , Gary does LOL.

WOW!!! That explains a lot of what I hear in his music. I don't play the bass, so I just thought he was 1000x better than most. Now I realize he's only 500x better than most. More please! Go Brotha... Go!

I made this film! Back in 1995/96. Them were the days. The budget was tiny. But good to see there's life in it still. And glad so many people still enjoy seeing bits of it. I have a feeling this bit of footage is an out take? Strange.

Mark's comment about being "not a good bass day" seems to be referring to the noise gate cutting off some of his notes. I guess he would not normally use one, but the studio lighting used by the film crew was causing some interference. He clarifies at 0:58.

I'm a bass player - albeit amateur but I still recorded some albums - I play fingerstyle bass exclusively - but hardly ever slap - I never knew how to slap really. I'm self taught and play bass very much like a guitar - huge mistake innit? I play the drums too, and though I lack practice, I can get by and had a glam rock band, I never ever thought slapping would involve drumming techniques as I always assumed your right hand had to slap and not your left one. I've tried implementing the hammer-on techniques and it definitely helps but then it apparently also involves knowing pentatonic scales to solo around right? So my point is, does a good slap technique require that someone be a technically gifted guitar player and drummer?

Not a good bass day? If that's the best I could achieve on any day, I'd take it! I think the best way to get the feel of Mark's style is just practice that drumming unplugged. Trying to get notes in there as a beginner just confuses most people. Works for me anyway.
