The song's about the history of McDonald's hamburgers. Started off with Ray Krock wanting to buy out a hamburger place...it worked! It's kinda hard to understand because Mark has such a brilliant way of writing in depth. How he thinks these songs up, I'll never understand...he's just a very smart English literature soul.

It's about Ray Kroc investing in the McDonald brother's burger restaurant and when he persuaded them to go public as a corporation he bought out the majority shares and forced them out. He became the CEO and founder of the McDonald Corporation we know today. The two brothers then tried to start over with another burger joint and he more or less crushed them under foot. It's just Knofler's way of expressing his opinion on the mainstream. All of his songs are covertly controversial.
