Great story in his autobiography about how that whistling at the beginning of the song came about. It was from a whistling cookie jar shaped like a hobo that was in the studio, and J. Masis dared him to put it on the record. I love all of his solo output and most of the collaborations, but those first two albums are special to me. RIP. Damn.

The whistling hobo with the wind coming thru the alley. I just got done with the book. The darkness was unable to put down, and anyone having similar issues, will be able to feel the pain and torment. I found myself holding my breath thru much of the related pain.

I came across Mark this year and proceeded to watch every interview with him I could find. I really like the Seattle bands, I am a big Nirvana buff and had always heard of Screaming Trees but just never got to them. After watching his interviews and listening to his stories I had a real sense of Mark being the the epitome of the essence of this scene - for better or worse. I decided to listen to this album and I am so grateful and happy that I did. This song can make me cry. All of my crying songs sort of lost their power the more I murdered them and I had honestly been searching for one for ages. The catharsis is so relaxing, so human. I love this song - the honesty in his voice is incredible. His assessment of his own ability is also exactly what I am after - born to make music, but still at the whim of music as well. No ego, just honesty in the moment, connected to his consciousness, nothing else. It is as true as true gets. In a world full of fakes the authenticity he conveys through his art possibly the most precious human/personal commodity there is. Thank you so much Mark. You are now one of my most cherished musicians.

So sad to hear of his passing one the most passionate voices of the last few decades….. Watch some of his interviews and realize what a awesome human he was. I saw him at some show in Chicago and didn’t realize it was him until I heard his voice, I was really blessed to see some of the best artists in my lifetime, Nirvana Sound garden Pearl Jam Rush Janes Addiction Chili 🌶 Pixies 🧚♂️ and more… Peter Gabriel Genesis Afghan Whigs and many other I have been blessed! RIP Mark!

Track 20 of Hype ! The Motion Picture Soundtrack , and the documentary itself Hype registered the Heyday of the Grunge Years, I'm grateful to have experienced it.
