Today I talk about the new Mark Levinson No 5909 Headphones. I compare these new $999 offerings from Mark Levinson to my 1 1/2 year old Bose 700 Noise Canceling headphones.
While my Bose have served me well, I now use the Levinson No 5909. For my large ears the larger ear cups of the ML fit me better. The noise canceling is equal but the sound quality and materials are top notch with the Levinson. The Bose are sleeker for sure, and IMO look more handsome but the 5909 brings better performance.

These offer up a soundstage within your head and bring imaging, sparkly highs and depth. The bass performance can be tailored via the app from anemic to full. These sound phenomenal, feel fantastic and look stunning in Red. My review units are black which are good for being understated.

I think this 5909 competitor is the B&O H95. not Bose or Sony they are different category.

I wasn’t a fan of the H95 at all. The comfort was lacking for my big ol ears, and the sound was not up to snuff imo. I like B$O though. They sometimes have some nice stuff.

I got the Sony XM5 had the QC45 are the Mark Levinson better than the Sony XM5 in ANC? Okay since u said they are on Par with Bose 700 for ANC that must be XM5 have better ANC but these Mark have way better materials and audio

A lot of the marketing on these make them seem like a fashion statement first and a headphone second. I shared some comments and questions about these headphones over on the KZbin review done by Audio Advice. One thing Audio Advice looked into for me and got a response from Mark Levinson on is that you can bypass the internal DAC using the USB-C to 3.5mm cable. I think this is a smart move. Audiophiles will probably appreciate being able to use these headphones not only on the go but also at home with the desktop DAC and Headphone Amp. They are probably not better sounding than the high end wired headphones from Focal, for example. I would really like to listen to these and even do my own review. If you can have the convenience of wireless Bluetooth noise-cancelling headphones for travel but also use them at home for critical listening, they would be pretty versatile.

Are these miles ahead of Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless in terms of sound quality? obviously the Amiron Wireless don't have noise cancelling, do you have any feedback on comparison of these in terms of sound quality

Be careful with the “miles” word. I am into music for over 50 years so I heard this a lot by reviewers until you listen yourself. If any fans here try these headphones with Bill Laswell music. Specially his Dub releases.

If you plug them into an external DAC they can go up to 40k instead of 20k.

Just ordered a set for free at Crutchfield. I was thinking using my points to get another free firearm at Cabelas but instead put them on the 5909. I got a JBL 1300x Soundbar and was blown away at what sound I was missing in my home theater area so I decided to venture into a quality set of BT headphones.

For 1000 Dollar it should be great even from a HiFi legend like Mark Levinson. I wonder why they didn’t release a wired one as well? Let’s face it, who will take these on the road without an insurance?

You can run the wired with an external headphone amp or other analog source.
