I get your point, which is that Mizzou now competes at a high level. But you can’t just redefine terms. Blueblood refers to a person of noble birth, and in the US has come to mean one of a family of longstanding dynastic wealth. The Rockefellers are bluebloods, but the Gateses are not, even if the Gateses have more money now. In the same way, Michigan and Alabama are bluebloods and Mizzou is not, even if Mizzou is at Michigan/Alabama’s level (which I also don’t buy yet).

As a current student absolutely love the podcast as it is right now! I’ve been listening since I came to school here, and agree with most of your takes but that’s an interesting idea. Would be pretty neat seeing people from the university on the show.

John, keep doing the way you are. I enjoy your insight and respect your opinion, especially since you can be you.

Blue blood is simply the wrong term. Whether it’s in the dictionary or not, it was used to describe aristocrats and royalty who never had to work the fields therefore their skin was pale enough to see their veins. A generational element / extended period of time over many years is implied. A peasant overthrowing a king doesn’t make him a blue blood, but maybe his grandkids. You can say it is just semantics, but I guess that depends on what your definition of is, is.

Love your podcast John I watch every show. In my opinion you should keep doing this instead of risk compromising yourself and becoming one of these cookie cutter, no personality sports journalists. Giving your genuine opinion is why you're great to watch.

Yes, would be awesome if you cover as a journalist. But ultimately your choice. What you do now is great too

I think you do a great job as is. Great points, good radio voice, and you seem to have good knowledge of the subjects. The only thing you may gain by covering events is being able to get your podcast out sooner with that news. I would suggest just watching those events (if possible) and get info from other peoples interviews with the teams etc. sorry long explanation, hope that makes sense. lol. Maybe go to some local ones to start? 🤷🏼♂️.

How can anyone consider Miami a blue blood at this point? That school hasn't done anything for 20 years +. It's like talking about Nebraska as a blue blood. That era is over. And yeah Mizzou is not a blue blood. Blue blood has a natty in this era of sports or competes for one regularly.

MIA rec classes starting in 2024. #6, #8, #13, #11, #16. That's the past 5 years. How is that not a blue blood?
@ryanh44165 ай бұрын
@@jmfbizzle what have they done on the field? Recruiting means nothing if you don't perform on the field. Tennessee constantly has a top recruiting class. Notre Dame. You consider them a blue blood when they don't have any hardware to show for it? Blue bloods are the elite of the elite. Bama, GA, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson for now, Florida State. That's probably the cap. Oregon just on the cusp. But when we talk about Blue Bloods, think about bball and how elite you have to be. I think that is what is getting lost on us when discussing Blue Bloods.

@@jmfbizzle Because they don’t hand out trophies for recruiting classes

@@srth7140 Blue bloods in recruiting are the teams that consistently recruit at the highest level, it's not measured by trophy's. ND is a blue blood & they haven't won a trophy since 1988, that's 36 years ago. By your definition only ALA, UGA, MIC, LSU, CLEM, & OSU? No TEX? OU? FSU? USC? ORE?
@ryanh44165 ай бұрын
@@jmfbizzleBlue bloods in recruiting isn't a thing. No one says that. People say blue blood as a whole encompassing term for the success of a program. I literally have never heard someone say that ever.

It's easy to become complacent by staying in your comfort zone. The risk of losing a some amount of objectivity compared to what we, the fans, stand to gain, seems like a decent risk/reward. To be honest, the risk seem small as I trust you're objectivity would still shine through. On the plus side, I would expect you to have deeper insights from more first hand experience. I think this would provide more interesting content and your opinions would perhaps carry even more weight. I'll keep watching either way.

Now that the market has opened up to pay players, the teams that dominated and paying players under the table. They were so used to fighting for players with maybe two other teams now they have to fight with twelve other teams, and they can't keep players every year they can't tie him up like they used to, they're not going to be the year after year of top teams they will have a lot more up and down seasons than they used to, that's my take.
@srth71405 ай бұрын
Recruiting, NIL, facilities… until they start handing out trophies for those things, none of that makes you a blue blood. Only thing that does is winning championships.
