I like the example of adding connection to nodes.Sometimes we have to make a tradeoff between controlling the spread of virus and the cost we spend in it(e.g. test of covid19; traffic control). If we know the phase transition point, we will make better decision.

Really interesting! Gives a great insight into Professor Newman's work! Thanks for sharing! I have to say tho that Nassim Nicholas Taleb and such mathematicians would not be very happy with these theories, as they rely on Gaussian models and completely omit fat tails etc...
