In my country, at school, music lessons are limited to playing beige plastic flute. But in Japan, music lessons at school are serious: guitar, bass, drum, violin, and a whole bunch of instruments. And after school the young japanese gather at Karaoke to take turns singing. And then we're surprised that thousands of bands are swarming in the dark concert halls throughout Japan.

Early childhood music training. Teasing them to the instruments, to amazing sounds. That is so normal in Japan, and now we experience the natural, relaxed results: Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, Band-Maid. Who would have thought 10 years ago, that serious Metal deserving that name would be Japan-based nowadays. They studied the best, and now pass on to the world.

Actually Hanabie started out as a Maximum the Hormone cover band. Every song I have heard of theirs is a banger. Nemophila is also kick ass, hell J-Metal is my favorite and I am far from a weeb.

Hanabie = Harajukucore = 🔥🔥🔥🔥 so if you wanted to put a label on it, they already did. You don’t have to be a weeb to love J-Metal, it stands up just fine on it’s own. Han-ah-bee-ay, but don’t worry, it’s hardly intuitive. As mentioned Nemophila are another excellent, fresh J-Metal band worth checking out but to be fair every Hanabie MV has something new and different to appreciate - try Reiwa Matching App Generation for a taste. Japanese metal does it’s own thing,genres don’t have much meaning. Hanabie is a great start, you also need to check out Nemophila, Bridear, Gacharic Spin, Lovebites, Fate Gear, Band Maid (best rock band on the planet), the list goes on! I liked watching you trying to keep up with them, trust me: you can’t.

Hanabie (pronounced HAHN-a-bi-ǝ) This is what you get when Babymetal and Maximum the Hormone have a love child. They actually started in high school, playing MTH covers. Clearly one of THE new metal bands to watch. Most of their songs are quite pointed, concerning social issues like dating app abuse, drugs, prostitution, cheating etc. “We Love Sweets” is about having an unhealthy relationship to sugar. Members: Vocalist (Harsh, rap)- Yukina Guitarist and Clean vocals - Matsuri Bassist and backing vocals - Hettsu Drums - Sae They recently dropped their first EP. Their producer is Gaku Taura, who is the drummer for Crystal Lake (another band you should check out). He has his own studio, Soul Japan.
