Back in 2010 I was looking for a car to race autocross with. I had my eye on a first gen mr2 since it was smaller and I liked the looks. Until my dad asked if I had ever seen a. 240Z… I hopped on google and and this was the first Z I ever saw. I was instantly hooked because of how amazing this one looked!

Bro I remember drooling over this car about 20 years ago, I had pictures of it as my wallpaper on my desktop! (there were some graffitied up walls in the background) Still looks amazing glad to see you still have it

I had a '73 240Z and also a '75 280Z. Wish I could travel back in time and enjoy those cars once again.

I have my 70 240z I picked up when I was 18...(now 42) held onto it all these years and have thought about going so many different ways over the years from buying a 2jz then sold it, a tune port Chevy motor, sold it...even a s2000 engine and traded it all to go back to a 2.4 engine that’s been worked over a bit...just glad I never let her go and seeing your creation really inspired me to get back out in the shop to get her running...

Absolutely gorgeous - perfect balance of racecar and street car. I actually had a photo of it as my desktop background about 10 years ago. Just found your channel so I guess I'll be binging a few videos! I've been planning out something very similar for my floor structure. What size tubing did you go with and how did you tie it in to the trans tunnel? I'm leaning towards 3/4 square in maybe 13/14GA. That should allow me to get rid of the frame rail section and run flat bead rolled floor pans while also stiffening up the chassis
@markrolston
@markrolston 3 жыл бұрын
yes 3/4 square tubing. tight square grid with cross tubing in each square for rigidity. riveted to carbon in the cabin and aluminum panels under the car. air gaps filled with expanding foam. tied to trans tunnel with thicker tubing that follows the form of the tunnel.

@@markrolston Foam didn't even cross my mind, that's genius! Cut down on road noise through the floor and oscillation of the panels at speed

Still looking great. Nice drysump setup. How many stages are you running? I would like to go this way with mine but it is a lot of money, especially for the Dailey, but its nice to have all the scavenge lines internal, it does however take up more room below the engine than something like a PRP setup. I either go drysump or upgrade my sump with wings and improved trap doors and then add an oil Accumulator so I guess so they could be taken off the cost of a drysump. The oil tank for drysumps are traditionally circular as they swirl the oil around the tank upon entry to help with de-aerating the oil. How is this achieved on a rectangular tank?
@markrolston
@markrolston 3 жыл бұрын
I ran an Accusump for years and still had starvation issues. The time it takes for the accumulator to address an issue is often too late. Not sure about the swirl rule with the tank. I assume my rect tank is simply less efficient but I still don't have any issues.
@EE9Civic
@EE9Civic 3 жыл бұрын
@@markrolston So, probably not worth bothering with an Accusump then. Especially not helped by my intended location which would be behind the airdam below the intercooler. Thats about 1m of pipe before it even enters the engine, I believe they are most effective mounted right as close to the engine as possible. I haven't had many issues with oil starvation so far apart from when drifting in a few corners. But it would be waste of money to spend it on a new sump design and accusump if it isn't going to work.

Hey mark your Z is very Inspiring dude I have to say as I’m building one right now 🔥🔥🔥, how did you Make the Digital gauges on the Motec 1212 Screen It’s crazy dude and I’ve been thinking about digital gauges and stuff but I don’t want to cut the Dash so I was just wondering how did you do so
@markrolston
@markrolston 3 жыл бұрын
The Motec 1212 is mounted behind the tach/speedo pod and it almost covers both completely. It shouldn't need any trimming but if you want the image closer you can trim back the depth of the pods. I did. The design is done with the Motec Display Creator. It's tedious but ultimately you can create whatever you have in mind. I'd be happy to share the file if it helps. I bet there are other dash solutions that might also work but I have a Motec ECU so this worked great.

What axels are you running? And clutch, reared gears?? I’m fixing to start my 78 280 so any insight would be helpful… Also the bumpers look great the way you set them in. I was gonna leave them off reluctantly but you changed my mind…

These guys have the axle setup I use. whiteheadperformance.com....39 spline Porsche axles. The video here shows the 27 spline 280zx axles but it's since changed.

Slim bumpers are key to the front face of the Z looking balanced. Otherwise you get a giant bass-mouth.

Awesome work on your Z. I noticed that you had an in-ground lift, I am very interested in one for my garage. Where would I get the information on one auch as yours. Is it a local manufacturer or custom? Again outstanding car!
@markrolston
@markrolston 3 жыл бұрын
that is a Bendpak SP-7XLF. works great. Was about 5k. There's both an in-ground and above ground version available. And a cheaper version that doesn't lift as high. This one will go up around 7 feet.
