This is incredible! I think you should rename the video to "Tropical Garden & Greenhouse in the UK Tour", or something like that, because I couldn't find this video when searching for tropical greenhouses in Europe, I actually found it through a forum. It deserves way more views! :)

Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words and feedback. I want to keep the Mark's Crazy Tiki Garden in the title as it's probably the most popular series of videos on my channel but I'm sure you'll enjoy the return visits and seeing how the greenhouse has evolved! I might add the tour and UK into the title though, I hadn't considered people like yourself coming for the greenhouse specifically so thank you very much.

Probably your best video yet. I totally agree that the longer you do this kind of gardening the more you simplify it. 80% of my garden is now plants that look after themselves and then just feel the gaps with some more special plants.

Thank you very much, it was an enjoyable one to put together and Mark is very generous with his advice and experiences so I’m pleased that comes through. Yes, I’m with you there, it’s definitely a balance but that’s the way I see my garden evolving too. 100% tropical jungle effect but with less winter worries and summer faffing!

Hi, yes, it's definitely an interesting one when it flowers. I've seen it in a couple of larger gardens but you're right, it hasn't really made a name for itself amongst the tropical style gardeners. I suppose a big part of the emphasis is on big summer growers or more overtly exotic looking evergreens but there's definitely a lot of room for plants with seasonal interest like Edgworthia too.

I love this guy's garden. The mixture of the clean sharp looking Japanese section contrasting with the cool jungle area. I love the curved shapes going throughout. Going back to basics I absolutely get. Being more chilled about overwintering I buy 100%. His brahea armata is classy set up tall. Bananas look superb. 👌. Really enjoyed the tour. Superb. Regarding the Tree ferns - I never water mine for 6-months continuously from April~September and they never suffer. We only get approx 500mm of rain yearly. Tree ferns i grow are: Dicksonia fibrosa / Cyathea medullaris.
@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi and yes, completely agree that they can be OK, I definitely cut back on the watering through winter. I do think it completely depends on the weather, location and how sheltered the ferns are though, we seem to get a lot more drier spells with winds in winter now which definitely increases the need for water. I always like to give them a quick soak when it’s dry and mild so they’re not already stressed if they have to be wrapped for a prolonged freeze. I think there’s an argument for optimal care to get them to survive or thrive but if the varieties you grow suit that rhythm in your garden then keep it up!

It certainly is! I wanted to focus on a garden tour for this vid but I’m sure Mark and his garden will be making an appearance again. Great ideas for questions and I can answer on Mark’s behalf, his job is not related to horticulture and like myself is self taught with a mixture of passion, enthusiasm and trial & error!

Hi George, just a quick question I'm thinking of buying livistona decipiens is it worth it? And do you have one ? Marks tropical wonderland is amazing. Could you do a long video on the saga palms. Your videos our fantastic Cheers Chris
@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris and thank you. I don’t have any experience of the Livistona unfortunately, I suspect they’re maybe worth a go for sheltered areas but not something I’d personally risk outside here. I’ll see what I can do with the Cycads but I don’t really do much with mine, just keep it in a cool greenhouse for winter.

As in the canes used around the garden? I don't think it's been a particular issue for him, but I'll ask next time I'm round. It is a lovely garden but keeping it top condition is certainly a labour of love, I'm excited to see how it develops over time!

I had no idea we had cactus that are hardy in the UK! (with a winter raincover im guessing) Do you know what the cacti in the first part of the video are called George?
@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, yes, there are some hardy ones - if you Google ‘Paul Spracklin Garden’ you’ll see some beauties! You’re completely right, they need good drainage and ideally shelter from the winter wet. I’ll check with Mark which ones he grows, I know Echinopsis terscheckii is a popular one but there’s definitely a few worth experimenting with in sheltered spots!

@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Russell, after a lot of saving and selling some bits off I’ve recently moved to the Canon R5. This was a mixture of R5 for the main tour and some older HD footage from my R6. Both amazing cameras once you know their strengths and weaknesses. Had I mentioned they were Canon or was it a guess based on the colours?
@russellgreaves9020
@russellgreaves9020 Жыл бұрын
Hi George, thank you for your reply. You had mentioned it in one of your videos a while ago but couldn't remember which one. Mit get an r6 if I get the money together. Would you say there is alot of difference between the r6 and r5?
@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
@@russellgreaves9020 Oh right yes. I’ve always used Canon and really rate them but in all honesty other than budget the biggest factors are what you want to use the camera for and if you have any lenses already. Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm all make nice cameras in the same bracket. The R6 is very nice and for me the main reasons to upgrade were that the megapixels were occasionally a bit limiting and the R5 does better slow motion video. Apparently there’s an R6 mk2 on the way soon so that might bring the prices down if you’re not in a huge rush and the R10 is also a good buy lower down.

is it possible to grow a coconut tree ?
@GeorgesJungleGarden
@GeorgesJungleGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, just replied to your other comment but coconut palms have a reputation for being tricky to grow here. They're tender but even when you bring them inside for winter they have quite high light and heat requirements unfortunately! Don't let me put you off though, go for it if you fancy a challenge!

Hi and thanks for the feedback - apologies about that and I'm sorry it affected your enjoyment of the video. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot I could do about it on the occasion, Mark's very busy so it's really a case of making the most of the time I had there, but there are some return visit videos on my channel which have a lot less distractions. I do want to keep improving the audio of my vids as much as I can and respect that if something is distracting for me then it's likely to be completely off-putting for others so I'll keep doing the best I can with my time and resources to make my videos as enjoyable and informative as possible. I appreciate your honesty.
