I am a young war veteran who cries every time I hear this song. I look into my son's eyes and can see how good God has been to me...Thank You!
@Sneadster13 жыл бұрын
we sang this every sunday in basic...we all cried then, and it got a little worse through the years. unfortunately, not every mother gets to hold their child upon return....it takes seconds to say a short prayer for the safe return of the men and women serving, and for the families of those lost...is a prayer worth a good night's sleep to you?

My son is currently at Parris Island, SC in his forth week of Marine Corps bootcamp. He wrote to me and asked that I listen to this song and think of him. The song has been played to him during his training and it meant alot to him. God bless our troops and the families that support them. Please remember that freedom isn't free!

Every Sunday at church services in boot camp they played this song, its one of the reasons I made it through that craziness called Parris Island. -Marine

I can't believe this song is 9 years old and I had never heard of it.....it is beautiful! Reminds me of my Daddy, who was a POW in WWII. My grandparents didn't know if he was alive or dead and had to wait just like the song says, to find out anything. I'm so glad this song has a happy ending and he got to come back home, just like my Dad.

my son spent a year in Iraq. I didn't receive any letters, but because of the miracle of the internet I was able to see and talk to him frequently. This song always puts a catch in my heart, knowing that at any moment I could stop hearing from him. When he deploys again next year, I'll be just as worried, from one aspect, but even more so from another: he's getting married in June, and will leave his wife and son behind for 15 months. WE must pray for our soldiers and their families.

I heard this in 7th grade and instantly fell in love with this song! My 7th grade English teacher once when she taught elementary school made a picture book and send it out to him, and I can still remember crying when reading this...... Her husband once was in the Navy and same with my dad so this song means a lot to us that somebody cares about our nations protecters. every time i hear this song I cry.......

My sister made me listen to this song. She figured that if I like 'Traveling Soldier' then I'd love this. She was right, of coarse. Now I love it. It makes me think of my grandpa who fought in Vietnam. P.S. The US was winning that war when he left it.

Hey lay it off. Yes, the age gap is quite significant, but that's not the point. The point is that a loved one of hers is in basics, and when he graduates, he'd most likely be deployed to defend freedom.The point is that her loved ones is a warrior ready to defend freedom, and she's worried for his safety.
