Clever signing by mourinho. Schwarzer has played in two world cups against the teams on the planet. Italy 2006. Germany 2010. Great back up to cecum and will hopefully see some game time in the fa cup and league cup games.

He was only signed as a back up and to play fa cup, he's 40 at the end of his career signed on a on a year contract just for that. He has decades of experience and in his time was a top keeper. Perfect signing gives us more time to figure out what to do with our cech vs courtois situation

Great goalkeeper, I'm honestly surprised we managed to get him considering he was going. Awesome number two, definitely better quality than Hilario or Turnbull. He's been one of the top 5 keepers in the league for years in my opinion, I'm quite amazed he wasn't picked up before this.

I think Schwarzer meant he will challenge for Čech's first-team position, which means Čech will have to work hard in training to keep his place. I don't think there's anything Schwarzer can do that Čech can't, but if you compare him to the previous reserve goalkeepers Čech was competing with, Schwarzer is miles better. Čech now has another experienced, Premier League quality keeper to train and compete with, which should hopefully motivate him even more.

Even do he's 40, he's still a great signing for us. Rather than Ruddy, which most probably cost us 10 million, Schwarzer is free. He got great experience, and even more games played in the league than Cech. A 1 year deal is great, Courtious will be back after his loan spell.

Of course. Competition for places can help improve any player and Cech has had none for years. Could teach him a thing or two about keeping sharp & in shape as he progresses through his 30's.

He does, but he might get injured or something. In case of Cech's injury we would not have a substitute goalkeeper, so that's why CFC signed Mark Schwarzer

NO WAY REALLY?? read the comments before you reply. I said in my first comment "He was signed to give cech a run for his money" therefore i practically stated that he isnt as good. Doesnt matter if he 41, aiint as if he running up and down the pitch flat out and he still is a fantastic Gk who will most likely be consistent when he is asked to play. Can't see Petr letting go of that number one shirt in one years time. Until then, Courtois will have to keep going on loan so he can get playing time so hopefully Schwarzer will do well and extend his contract. I read an article that Schwarzer wrote a few weeks ago on Daily Mail where he stated that he stays in top physical condition and can play for a few more years so as long as he has a good season I don't see why Chelsea wouldn't give him another one year contract..
