Id love to see selby vs someone like svb. In both , svb vs selby in 8 ball american style on a 9 foot table, and svb vs selby in this. See how they do in the different setup

Definitely a different game, the cue ball physics especially are very different. I do appreciate the production value of cue sports in Europe though! Hope match room can continue expanding and do this for American pool!

So is this winners break race to 4? That seems a bit silly at a pro level doesn’t it? Almost feels like a coin flip if the break is working?

Commentators talking like Selby hasnt seen a pool table in 15 years. The truth is he has a pool table in his house and plays regularly.

I'm really not sure how i feel about the golden break
@hudsonsoul1121

Me too. I fail to see the skill involved as it’s more of a rewarded fluke.
@richardbrennan7288

I think it adds a bit of fun. Flukes are part of sport. The drama of someone getting a kick was often fantastic in snooker. It's entertainment at the end of the day. Move too far away from that and you hurt your the prosperity of the sport.

@@richardbrennan7288 l think a golden break is the ultimate reward for a fluke. Flukes are part of the game but to lose a frame from a fluke is ridiculous. Consider one guy pulling of some amazing shots and top rate safety play and after 12 mins he wins the frame, then the opponent breaks off and get the golden break. Shear excellence to win a frame after 12 mins but the opponent applies to a golden break. The frames are quick anyway they certainly don’t need to be any quicker.

@@hudsonsoul1121 we can disagree it's okay . You're talking about a game which at its very core has the possibility to be won or lost in one shot by potting the black before clearing colours. If I was being really picky - I'd prefer it to be the case that ou can lose off the break if you pot the black because it's consistent with the rules. Then there could always be argument that your decision to break off hard was a calculated risk taking potting the black into consideration thus limiting the element of it being a fluke in its purest form. .. but think of it another way for a second. If those balls were packed exactly the same way, positioned in exactly the same place, hit with the exact same force , exact same position and angle on cue ball, exact same shot in every way etc etc , then you'd make a golden break every time. Now you're probably thinking that's unachievable... well maybe consistently... but in the pursuit of excellence maybe a professional player would do it 3 in a 100 times... and I'd do it 1 in 100. That's skill. That's perfection. Let them go for it. Yeah okay it can take 12 minutes or 1 second.. but boxing can take 12 rounds or 1 second. Welcome to sport.

@@richardbrennan7288 yes we can disagree and discuss a difference of opinion as that’s what many people can’t do on here. My biggest issue about losing a game is due to a fluke or succession of flukes, I’ve never like losing or winning a game due to potting the black on the break. Think I’m more of an old school player so I’ve not adjusted to this new golden rule. Even when l potted the black it seems to happen more regularly than l expected. 40\4 games l got this break and yet lve not played for 5 years and currently just started getting my game back which is more of a confidence thing as well as cue action adjustments. Pool should be about skill and patterns not about a fluky black going in the pocket on breaking. I’ve think rules should be changed to make the game longer not shorter (however pub teams obviously wouldn’t favour this if they work early mornings). Suppose it’s ok to add the golden break purely for fun, l know if l got the golden break when l was losing l certainly would welcome but wouldn’t view it as skill.

I really enjoy watching this game. I'm in the U.S. our pockets are like 5 times as big as these are. Lol. Do they use a different cue for the break off? Garrett's cue bends so much when he breaks. I would think they would have a cue just dedicated for breaking. I wish we were more diverse here in the U.S. it's just pool on a 7 or 9 foot table. And mostly 8 or 9 ball. It gets boring. I would love if people played snooker or English pool here but they won't. It's sad. The pro at the pool hall I go to sId Americans just don't have the patience for snooker. He said he had a 10 foot snooker table there but nobody ever played so he got rid of it. Americans want a fast game like 8 or 9 ball that only lasts a couple minutes. Too impatient to play chess game like snooker. Just sad.

Commentary confuses me, “lovely shot” “such a good shot” then proceed to say “once again they finished the wrong side “ 🤦🏽 most of the time seems like they talking for the sake of talking!

They are consistently shite in the commentary box. The times they say "oh what a shot" for nothing more than an average amateur does every day! And with video titles like "Mark Selby Magic" the match result is already given away so absolutely no point watching!! The tables they play on now are so easy, unlike the old style tables where you needed to be very accurate with shots. Rarely do you see a tactical frame because the rules make the game easier. I used to love watching the odd 45 minute tactical frame.. its now whoever has the luckiest break

Agree with you both in a way but 6 months ago they pushed all the snooker guys non stop after throwing cash at them.. maguire was useless and Williams not much better.. if they spent some time focusing on building stars rather than buying them in it would serve better in the long run

I don't understand this - the first frame had him playing totally different opponents from the second frame which was different people again than the third frame, I think. Stopped watching after that - someone utterly mucked up recording the match so there wasn't any point. How come they didn't realise they'd messed up so badly before posting it? Chris.
