Mark, I can't quite tell but would those arms pull straight up and off of they weren't frozen in place by the grease? Assuming so, use your soldering iron and heat up the shaft that they're on until the grease softens and you can remove the arms. Then you can clean everything with IPA regrease and reassemble.

I managed to get the right side off just using the penetrating oil, got it loose enough to rick back and forth and pulled up with a nylon tie wrap. Yes- the soldering iron sounds like a good trick, the left arm is more solidly seized, so I’ll give that a shot.

“Rock” back and forth… Who decided to put “i” next to “o?” Will go for Molykote to relubricate, standard 3-In-1 for the pinch roller bushings.

Thanks again for the soldering iron tip! I just bought an X-7R MKII with the same issue- the trick worked perfectly!

You’ve got to heat the pivots on those arms with a micro torch or a hot air re-workstation with the smallest nozzle on it, to loosen them up and get the grease back into a liquid state. (Sometimes these are also referred to his pencil torches.)

A high wattage soldering iron worked just fine, and the heat went to the axle ONLY and no surrounding area.

Made it this far. My rollers are seized up, too. So, if I heat up those arms, I can just pull them off?

It takes some patience for the iron to sufficiently heat the gooey lubricant, but it does work! If you have a high wattage iron it goes quicker. Apply the heat just at the axles and keep trying to rock the arms back and forth.

A PL chassis being used as a shelf! Classic. :)

Sharp eyes! Yes, the original chassis from my 700 Series Two. Joe at White Oak gifted me with his new chassis for use in the upgrade video series. I didn’t want to toss it because of the factory sticker inside with production details.

@@Mark5W8Comer Who's name was on the little round sticker?
@Mark5W8Comer11 ай бұрын
This one didn’t have the round sticker, but the driver circuit had the initials “JEH” magic markered on it. Maybe I got an oddball unit, or maybe they stopped the tradition for the 700/2 series.
