Markaz Nizamuddin
The Banglewali Masjid (Bungalow Mosque) was built in Nizamuddin by Mirza Ilahi Baksh, a relative of the last Mughal emperor, sometime after 1857. Mawlana Muhammad Ismail, the father of Muhammad Ilyas Kandhlawi, established a madrasa in its premises under the name Kashif al-Ulum. It is said that he used to go out and invite people to come to the mosque and, on one occasion, he happened to bring Meos from Mewat who were in Delhi as labourers. Noticing that they were not schooled in proper practice of prayer, he decided to teach it to them, which was the beginning of the madrasa.[6]
After the death of Mawlana Ismail and his elder son, Muammad Ilyas took up the task of teaching at the madrasa. He too was concerned with educating the Meos of Mewat.[7] Noticing that his own direct teaching would be indadequate to the task, in time, he evolved the practices of tabligh that form the foundation of Tablighi Jamaat.[8] This involved turning ordinary Muslims into preachers. Training them in the preaching work became the main activity of the madrasa, gradually turning the Banglewali Masjid into a markaz (centre or headquarters). Ilyas also set up an organisational network for his fledgling organisation bringing in men of influence to gather in the mosque. By the end of Ilyas's life, Tablighi Jamaat emerged as a national organisation with transnational potential.[9]
Tablig Jamat
Tablighi Jamaat (Urdu: تبلیغی جماعت‎, Society of Preachers)[4][5] is a transnational Islamic missionary movement[2][3] that focuses on exhorting Muslims and encouraging fellow members to return to practising their religion as per the Islamic prophet Muhammad,[6] particularly in matters of ritual, dress and personal behaviour.[7][8] The organisation is estimated to have between 12 to 80 million adherents worldwide,[1] with the majority living in South Asia;[9] their presence is attested in 150 countries,[2][3] whereas other estimates attest an approximate number between 180[10] and 200 countries.[8] It has been deemed as "one of the most influential religious movements in 20th-century Islam."[11]

Established in 1926 by Muhammad Ilyas al-Kandhlawi in Mewat region of British India, it began as an offshoot of the Deobandi[12] movement, and as a response to perceived deterioration of moral values and a supposed neglect of the aspects of Islam. The movement aims for the spiritual reformation of Islam by working at the grassroots level.[8][13] The teachings of Tabligh Jamaat are expressed in "Six Principles" (Kalimah (Declaration of faith), Salah (Prayer), Ilm-o-zikr (Knowledge), Ikraam-e-Muslim (Respect of Muslim), Ikhlas-e-Niyyat (Sincerity of intention), Dawat-o-Tableegh (Proselytizaton)).[14]
Tablighi Jamaat denies any affiliation in politics and involvement in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence),[15][16] focusing instead on the Quran and Hadith.[15][17] However, the group has been accused of political links.[8] The U.S. Government has closely monitored Tablighi Jamaat since September 11, 2001.[18] This has revealed that there are no direct links between the organisation and Islamic terrorism, although Islamic terrorist organisations have recruited from them.[2][3][18] Tablighi Jamaat leaders have denied any links with terrorism.[18] The Tablighi Jamaat strictly avoids political activities and debates, and instead focuses on religion only.[18] The Jamaat does admit that it attracts all sorts of individuals, regardless of their social or political standing and doesn't control its membership.
