A friend of mine bought his a7iv around the same time I bought my zve10 for a trip to Argentina, and by day 2 of the trip, he had grown incredibly jealous of Lil Doug and how small/portable it was, the versatility/ range of my tamron 18-200mm, and was almost ready to fight me when he saw the quality of the photos and realized I had spent a third on my setup than he had for his. Unless I go professional with my photography, APSC is for me.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis10 ай бұрын
even the pros usually have an apsc or two in their arsenal
@trym212110 ай бұрын
What your friend wants is small camera, a7cII is the answer and those small pancake-ish lens of unique aperture f2.5 (or just use APSC lens to be 14.67MP crop mode) Honestly, I prefer MFT for travelling but the update for compact stuffs are non existent nowadays. Bought used lx100 for cheap and man that's like a zoom lens all in one for me. 24-75mm f3.4-5.6 fullframe equivalent (or 16-50 f2.8-4 APSC equivalent )for just 400g (camera+lens). It's gonna really hard to beat that.
@gillesmatheronpro8 ай бұрын
The myth that "APS-C" can not be "professional" is an absolute joke ! Have you had a look at which kind of sensor is used in such cinema cameras as Arri Alexa 35 ? If not, do so. And make sure you also read the price tag attached to it, it shall change a few things in your mind about those sensors being "cheap" ! There is no "cropped" sensor... only different sensors sizes. And the only "full frame" there is, actually is the size found in photographic chambers (for instance 10x15 cm, 20x25 cm and beyond). These are the references, the standards to measure all other ones and, based on that, the nicknamed "full frame" is a small sensor. Why is it called "full frame" ? Simply because it has the same dimensions as the film surface found in classical SLR camera ( = 24x36 mm). Don't let names and nicknames fool you, don't let those "experts" fool you. They pretend, but they hardly deliver. I have shot professionally with a camera with a 8.8x13.2mm sensor (also nicknamed "1 inch sensor") for the last 5 years, and the pictures out of it just rock. Event those "experts" have it hard to believe they come from a camera with such a "small" sensor. Use the camera you have and/or can afford. Use it the best possible way, and you'll surprise yourself with the results.

Yes, the viltrox 27mm and 75mm lenses are offering FF quality in terms of DOF, but they also bring with them the FF weight penalty. Nevertheless, good to know that you can stay with a APS-C setup while still getting full frame IQ and at a cheaper price as long as you don't mind the weight.

Mark, I have been trying to search on KZbin but not able to find an answer to this question - What happens when you use an APS-C lens with either a 1.4x or 2x teleconvertor on a full frame camera? Wouldn’t they eliminate (or in the case of 1.4x come very close to eliminating) the vignette while also allowing the full frame camera to capture at its max pixel resolution? Why is this not something people seem to do? Maybe you could make a video on this topic 😊

100% agree with your pros & cons. These Viltrox Pro’s are amazing optically, but the weight made them very front-heavy on small APS-C camera bodies. It would be perfect if Viltrox keep the same optics but without the “Pro” features (no need for an aperture ring) so the lens can be 150g lighter (how about Viltrox Pro2’s, like the Sony GM2’s?). I brought my 75f/1.2 to Japan the photos were great but it was not enjoyable to use shooting handheld wide open with DMF. I was much happier with my A7C2+85f/1.8 (the 50f/1.8 was even lighter). Comparing aps c to full frame performance while never acknowledging the substantial price difference is ridiculous! If both format cameras were identical in price and features and the aps c performed poorly compared to the full frame, then the criticism would be justified. If two cars were identical but one of them had the super charged v8 upgrade for an xtra $2,500, no one would even bother to compare them. Except maybe a full frame snob. Lol

Love you videos, funny, entertaining and informative. Did you get a chance to look at some of the Yongnuo lenses? I saw you had a 85mm from that brand but they do have a 11mm F1.8 and a 16mm F1.8 as well. Would love to hear what you think about those. Cheers

Hi Mark, do you ever use UV filters for lens protection, or better have the lens “naked” ?

I never use up filters, personally, but I don’t blame anyone for wanting the protection

Nice lenses!! Viltrox is the best in the game!! But it seems that the next one on the line isn't gonna be a wide angle one, but another telephoto one. It is sad!!

Do you know if Viltrox will create a nice zoom lens? I would forego Sigma and especially Sony if Viltrox comes to the party

Wow, I bought all my lenses too early. Since you own a bunch of cameras of types and styles, do you see any difference in still mages made by the a6600 vs the a6700? In my testing and very controlled shooting stills, I see very little difference (if any) between the a6700 and A74, but I see quite a bit compared to my A7R3. In choosing a lens to use on my ZV-E10, that Sony 11mm 1.8 is a winner. Light lens on a light body.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis10 ай бұрын
I’m terms of photo quality, you won’t see a big difference with the a6600. the autofilling is better, but the actual quality of the images will be very similar.

Hi @MarkBennettCameraCrisis, it's a great review. I am a beginner and I have a Nikon Zf (24.5 Megapixel), so does that mean if I use this lens then the megapixel will drop to 12.25 Megapixel? Also I understand that the 27mm will become 40mm equivalent. But how about the aperture? Will it still be 1.2 or it will become 1.8? I already have a “NIKKOR Z 40MM F/2 (SE)”, I am just wondering thinking would it be similar to this Nikkor F/2 lens? I want to get a large Aperture lens so I can get a better low light photo and video and also better bokeh. So if it’s similar to 40mm F/2. Then there is no point for me to buy this lens if the aperture will become 1.8 when I put it on my Nikon Zf. I am just a little confuse could you please advise if that’s okay with you. Many thanks!

I got the 23mm f1.4 Viltrox, becacuse its close to 35mm equivalent. I have a problem with the minimum focus distance. If I could get closer, I could get the bokeh I was hoping for... I should have got the 27mm, but that was not available for Sony yet... bummer!

Thank you for the video. I originally picked my A6700 to build a small portable kit and added the small and lightweight Sigma 10-18/2.8 and 18-50/2.8 DC DN. Even with that goal I couldn’t resist the buying the Viltrox 75/1.2 and now 27/1.2 Pro lenses to try them out. In these 4 lenses I now have both flexibility and high Image Quality in a small kit (also do have the 70-350 G though):now I just need to get out and shoot with it. This does mean leaving my full size and compact C full frame bodies and GM lenses at home on occasion but I look forward to that surprisingly. Take care.

I bought this Viltrox lens for my A6700 and you are at fault here. Brought it with me on a trip to Turkey and it stayed on my camera most of the time while the famous Sigma 18-50 stayed in my bag 99% of the time lol. It is so good. A friend of mine who is a professional photographer brought A7iv with him and we kinda challenge each other using somewhat equivalent focal length on both camera (I used Viltrox 27mm and he used 50mm F1.4 GM) shooting the same scene..... we cant really tell the difference except the color rendition for each lens.

I have the sony FE 85mm 1.8. Would there be any reason to upgrade to the Viltrox aside the 1.2 DF.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis10 ай бұрын
If you’re shooting apsc, the 75mm viltrox will be better, yes. you will get a full stop more light and a shallower depth of field. I think the colours and autofocus are better as well on the viltrox compared to my 85 1.8 Sony. but the Sony is still a good lens.

@MarkBennettCameraCrisis10 ай бұрын
The viltrox 75 is amazing for portraits, but it is a bigger and heavier lens and you have to stand further back. Optically, I prefer the images slightly with the viltrox, but the sigma 56 is one of the best portraits lenses available. if you already have it and you’re happy with it, I wouldn’t necessarily change.

My Fuji XT3 paired with my Viltrox 1.2 makes me give zero concern to FF bodies. Heck, some of the most incredible work I've ever seen in my life comes out of the Olympus OM1 system which is a micro 4/3 that WILL outpace 90% of FF shooters.

I've just got one of these yesterday and I totally agree it is an absolutely fabulous lens. Took some pictures in the fading evening light which just came out great, superb colours, and no need to push the ISO. I agree the weight is a problem and on the A6400, my fingers get pinched between the lens and the handgrip, but eh you gotta suffer for quality like this. Only cost me 420GBP so cheaper than the Sigma 23mm 1.4 which is crazy. Would love a 56mm 1.2 version of this series, 75mm is maybe a bit limiting, but I am sure I will get that one anyway!
