I used to have this lens when I started out photography. This one lens taught me everything I needed about using a prime lens. Eventually sold it after almost a year and upgraded to the Sigma 18-50mm and Viltrox 13mm combo for my use case needs. Though not perfect, this 50mm lens taught me more than any zoom lens would have in the span I used it. Great value for money despite its chromatic aberration. After all, who would complain at that price?

I’ve learned to be cautious with F1.8. Depth of field has a steep learning curve. I started on micro 4/3 and took for granted its deeper depth of field. On Sony a7IV, I learned it is no fun misjudging the plane of focus I get one flower in focus but not one behind it even at F6. I need practice. I was always using F11, but that’s no fun.

If you do not mind manual you can get a 58mm f/1.4 MC Rokkor with adapter for less than $60 used. I bought a Minolta SRT-101 with the lens for $45 off eBay.

Thanks Mark! I use the YONGNUO 11mm lens - great lens for video! I've been shooting with it all year for my KZbin channel, but for stills it's not as good in some situations. Thanks for the great review of the 50mm! I think it'll be perfect for my needs, especially for the price

Thanks to Mark I decided to get a 55mm F1.8 Meke lens and really like it. Now I got to find something affordable that can get me 12mm or lower with a similar F1.8 or lower. Just because I've been in situations where I wanted that blurry background and image quality but my kit lens 16-50mm for ZV-E10 is usually F4

I had the Sigma 56 for my Canon M6ii. I was impressed with the sharpness, but the focal length wasn't really right for me. But the price of the Sigma is no comparison with this lens. Maybe I'll give the 50 millimeters another chance. Thanks for the review!

hope this helps: So i've been a user of the v1 yn lens 50mm for a long time and all i can say is "its definitely a bang for your buck" the AF performance and quality is the same as the cheap sony 50mm fullframe lens but way cheaper, I only sold mine cause I now want a fullframe compatible lens with my next upgrade.

Yes and yes but for video you'll need to be about 20 feet from the camera to get a talking head type shot like in my studio.

There are to much 50mm for APSC on the market. I would prefer it a little bit wider, like 40mm (60mm ff-equ.)

Another budget prime !? Sigma better watch it's crown, they are coming out strong to take it away! Curious though why the budget lenses as of late seem to all stop at 1.8 and more don't try to go for 1.4. Especially ones that have manual 1.4 options. 🤷‍♂️ Either way, still looks like another good option option.
