@@________o6474 Remember the scenario well.. basically Scurrah (on behalf of the owner & a few others) says they felt they needed to part ways to grow further so brought in Bluey. Ivan wanted a longer term contract so they parted ways. Was a dumb move then & more so now, short sighted & a punch in the guts. But hey ho worked out well for Ivan & co so happy days.

Mark, I really enoyed this. Ivan is such a quiet, low key man ... no fireworks but a thoughtful, observant, humble, somewhat mysterious man. Oh wow thanks Mr Bouris for this amazing interview, which is one of the best I've seen for a while. Normally watch Mark's economic reviews, but this was on another level. I'm usually a Union fan, but the success of Penrith Panthers has enticed me to League. On point with the Culture which builds respect, values, etc. Have more respect for Ivan, he get's it, 💯 agree with his statement Poly kids from NZ are totally different from Poly kids in Oz. Knowing this can help bring the best out of players, other clubs and codes lack. Ivan understands how to respect his players from different backgrounds, this brings out best of them . Go the Riff 🏉

I should know who the interviewer is, Im sure, but I do not. However, what an interview! I kept thinking how skilled he is at building rapport with the interviewees and injecting just the right mix of serious and funny to keep them relaxed and comfortable so that they can answer without any pressure but narurally and openly. Conversation was kept on a forward trajectory without anything feeling forced. Great filling and transitioning to different topics and questions...one of the best interviews Ive seen. Really great work.

Thank you for this interview with the Clearys. Really enjoyed. Ivan is a really modest humble and talented person. Nathan has most of his father’s character as I can see from his interviews and the way he plays. Very proud to have a team most especially a player like Nathan with his father as a coach. Keep the success with the culture and attributes of the panthers club.

Ivan is not just a good technical coach but equally a brilliant people’s manager. Not many coaches can do this. Wayne Bennet, Bellamy, and Trent Robinson come to mind. I remember being at Parramatta as a young 18-year-old in 1987 just after they won their last grand final and was taken back by how complacent the senior players were at pre- season training. The hunger and commitment was gone. That would not have happened under Jack Gibson and the captaincy of Ray Price. As Ivan said, I good indicator of how a team plays on the weekend is how well and committed they train during the week, Ivan has been able to make this playing group, humble, hungry and committed year after year when many of them could quite easily rest on their Loral’s. Not easy to do.

I love that they have a set of values for the team. This sets the tone for the club. If you look at Broncos compared to Panthers, they lack discipline and values, even with their players getting drunk and getting reckless. I love the tone Panthers has set for themselves. Really well done Ivan!

You would not meet a more honest, respectful and sensitive coach then Ivan. Just goes to show you don't need to be the stereotypical hard line coach to get success. I have heard first hand from players that Ivan has a relationship with every player on his roster. This goes beyond what happens on the field. He has an open door and people can talk to him about everything.
