That was amazing. My family grew up there. And to see what has become of it is very sad. Regardless, it was one of the best times of our lives! The school, the little building next to it with a porch, was the original one room school. My aunts and uncles started kindergarten there. Thanks for the memories 😊

Interesting... I lived there for about 7or 8 years in the nineties. I have pics of that school in operation, my ex worked @ jawbone store. The original one, many great memories of that area. My neighbors worked @ honda and so on.

The Hacienda you explored was call the Thunderbird Ranch and was built in the 1970's. The family that owned it was the Deloziers and they ran a Peruvian Paso horse ranch and grew alfalfa. I spent many days and nights there as a boy playing with the Delozier boys.

That is awesome information and I appreciate it. I'll bet it was quite a place in its prime. I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for checking out my channel!

Another factoid most people don't know about that area was the great flash flood that came through there. It took out the ranger station with rangers in it @ red rock and also a another women in her car I believe. But it moved so much sand in that short event that sand level became higher than the stop signs. That was one scary memory of that area. But we mostly had alot of fun out there. Exploring on dirt bikes everywhere.

I remember a big flash flood in the late 90s that did a great deal of damage to Redrock-Randsburg Rd and turned Neuralia Rd into a river! It did significant damage to the Lone Pine branch in that area as well as along the tracks from Cache Creek to Mojave. I still ride dirt bikes out there. Other than working, I always had fun in the dez! Thanks for checking it out!

I've got land out there; I can't wait to leave the south to go and live in the desert.

It is certainly the polar opposite of the south! To what part of the Dez will you be moving?

I love how calm and peaceful deserts are, especially during the warmer months.

Thanks Mark, another great video on days gone by. My uncle married Judy Boring when they were both older. Judy's family ran the Cantil Restaurant & Store in the 50's and early 60's. She said it was a booming business back then and was entirely family run.

Oh I forgot, the alfalfa from Cantil was sought after by horse owners, the mineral's in the soil made it some of the best horse hay in the country. It was always a bit higher $ than most hay. The only thing that rivaled it was alfalfa from the Kelso Valley hay around Weldon.

That's awesome! I tried to find some pix from when it was opened but had no luck.

Interesting, Mark, thank you for showing us the fields where alfalfa once grew. I had no idea about that area.

There was also a small community of workers housing next to 14 below Jawbone Canyon but there are no remnants today. Thanks for checking it out!

my dad grew up in Cantil after his father retired from the US Coast Guard. that was after WWII. my dad would have left in the 1960's, but his mother lived there until the early 1990's

It would have been great to be able to interview someone who'd lived there that long! Thanks for sharing your story and for checking it out!

I'd love to see someone buy that old hacienda and restore it to its former glory! Looked like it was a beautiful ranch or estate at one point in time. Here in West Texas, they don't even build them like they used to anymore. Nowadays, they build ugly brick houses or brick McMansions like what they build in Atlanta or somewhere else back East and put in barb wire fencing around the property. Looks very tacky and out of place.

The house where u mentioned the fire place and that it was someone's "pride and joy"... that house belonged to Darla Mund, and her husband Doral(different last name i believe) She was the sweetest lady! The house was very nice and cozy inside! My boyfriend at the time, is their son, Daniel Lee. He's got a bad Reputation out I'm cal citybu5 none the less... my jaw dropped when I saw this house on your video. She passed away in 2012 I think and Doral passed a few years later. I believe He was the last one to occupy the home... possibly 2016. This is so sad.. The reason I am viewing your video is because I want to go explore Saltdale without getting stuck or shot lol

Thank you for the information. No one will bother you at Saltdale, and as long as you stay on the roads, you won't get stuck. If you would prefer a guide, shoot me an email at motopoet59@gmail.com

I suggest some snake chaps save my butt out in the oil fields would be a good addition for your exploration gear

My favorite snake protection is shooting videos when it's still too cool for snakes! I walk slowly and make a lot of noise. They don't like us any more than we like them and will leave the area if possible. Thanks for checking it out!
