I don't play any of these games nor do I have any idea how they work but I find these videos fascinating... There's something compelling about listening to how other people scheme (good or bad) to profit from certain circumstances legitimate or otherwise, it's almost like watching the creative process for an artist except it's monetary in nature and not so much self expression. It spurs a sort of entrepreneurial desire and perhaps even spark a few ideas which may be totally unrelated to the subject matter but the same principals can be applied and you hear the pitfalls of doing things the wrong way and the right way as neither is guaranteed to protect you, there's risk in any sort of business venture and just listening to the amounts of risk successful people take is some what inspiring if not terrifying. Lol.

It's not illegal. There are no laws concerning virtual currency as a 3rd party. It is, however, against most game companies' Terms of Service, which you agree to when you start using their services (Play their games). If you break them the terms (Buy gold, pay for account services etc.) they won't allow you to use their service any further. (A ban). You are in no way a criminal.

If a company does partially RMT themselves but supports a robust economy then the farmers can still undercut the companies, take EvE Online for example, You can buy in game items for real money from the developers and trade them to other players in game that allows you to refresh your monthly subscription for free, and yet farmers and RMT bots are still present.

I like how he pointed out that games can sell the currency themselves to combat this. Thats what guild wars 2 done. You can buy gems with actual money then turn those gems into gold. But it isnt a set price. Its kind of a stock market deal and the ratio of gems to gold and likewise can go up and down. This kid is smart. I do not really like what he does but it is a form of business and he has found a place in it. It really does have an impact on game play though for others :/

We can all say "wow, he's smart!" but is clearly not putting that to morally good use. No, gold farming isn't 'illegal,' as far as the law is concerned; but it ruins the game for others. I was literally JUST out trying to farm felcloth to get my Robe of the Void in classic and had to content with 3 seperate gold farming bots at every single camp. I wound up fearing the mobs away and got lucky enough to mess up the pathfinding on the bots so, that was a small win; but the people who are doing this aren't being paid fair wage, and may not even be doing this willingly. It's morally dubious at best, and quite honestly, I wish this guy would've just put his time into program development or the medical field. It would have done the world a lot more favors.

19:20 There are a lot of factors you need to take into consideration when thinking about this stuff. Mainly it is the longevity of the subscribers actually playing the game, people may lose interest if in game currency is as easily obtainable as buying from some Chinese broker company. A lot of the "hours of game play" comes from obtaining in game currency. Developers also run the risk of their players getting scammed by fraudulent organizations. Now i haven't heard the kid answer the question but I feel that yes they can benefit from allowing this type of activity to go on but they run certain risks in doing so. And like the kid said developers can compete with these companies buy developing micro transactions in their games.

neither.. he says in the clip that it's kind of like an auction system, where thousands of farmers offer their gold, when intermediaries (people who buy from source and sell to customer - "the middle man") broadcast their orders, which they got from the websites that gamers go to for gold. Webpage X yells "I have an order for 10k gold on game Y", this guy says "i'll get the gold for you" and goes to the farmers and yells "10k gold on game Y!", after which the actual farmers go "i'll do it!!".

I kinda want to hate people like this, but part of me is also surprised by how "clever" it can be as well. While I hate it about humanity, he's right by saying that "if I don't provide it, others will". That's very true, unfortunately, very true. I've seen farmers really ruin the game, especially when trying to gather materials for your own use.
@MachetePanda11 жыл бұрын
I like gold farmers. I work 12 hours a day and have about 4 hours of play time per week. For me to compete in-game and have fun against these little kids that are playing 12 hours a day, I need to use my working time money to get gold where while the kid is playing, I'm working. To me its a fair trade. In fact, I would argue AGAINST anyone complaining about gold and plays 12 hours a day, THAT is just as 'unfair' to people that have lives.
