I don't play any of these games nor do I have any idea how they work but I find these videos fascinating... There's something compelling about listening to how other people scheme (good or bad) to profit from certain circumstances legitimate or otherwise, it's almost like watching the creative process for an artist except it's monetary in nature and not so much self expression. It spurs a sort of entrepreneurial desire and perhaps even spark a few ideas which may be totally unrelated to the subject matter but the same principals can be applied and you hear the pitfalls of doing things the wrong way and the right way as neither is guaranteed to protect you, there's risk in any sort of business venture and just listening to the amounts of risk successful people take is some what inspiring if not terrifying. Lol.

Even better than required password resets is secondary passwords. No memory issues. Mabinogi implements this and I've never had issues remembering/never cared about the user experience. Two passwords required to login. For mabinogi, the second password utilizes an on screen keyboard, also circumventing keyloggers if those are even still a thing, lol.

This kid is smart, I'll give him that. And I respect that. Obtaining a Masters by 22 is not an easy thing to do. However, from a gamer's point of view...even though you are on a Broker Level, you still have a hand in making the game less enjoyable for others. Every day I log into one f my games, I have to ignore the spam, and I choose to do the work for my gold, gil or otherwise, myself, because its HONEST. Its not your knowledge that I despise kid, it's what you are choosing to do with it...

The guy may be doing something unethical but he actually seems quite smart and knows what he's talking about. You should probably also Google his name, it might give you a little insight about him: www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=jared%20psigoda

+erwin s That's not what I said. If you bothered to try and understand what I was saying, I was commenting on all the people calling him stupid for what he was doing. Like I said you can absolutely argue the ethics of what he's doing and I wholeheartedly agree that it's wrong. But he's not stupid, he's actually pretty smart and he's pretty successful at what he does. When you separate what you personally think about a person with what they've accomplished and how they accomplished it, it's easy to see my point. This is completely independent from whether something is right or wrong. But instead you'd rather ignorantly insult me and completely miss my point.

I dont get excited by farming for several days or weeks for one item either BUT thats why i invent new and faster ways of getting gold.I found that in most online games, playing the auction house game is very profitable and doesnt take much time at all, leaving u tons of time to actually play the game.I dont mean buy low and sell high, thats for small time amateurs, im talking about creating markets, buying materials for less then the finished product with professions or dissemble them for profit.

It's not illegal. There are no laws concerning virtual currency as a 3rd party. It is, however, against most game companies' Terms of Service, which you agree to when you start using their services (Play their games). If you break them the terms (Buy gold, pay for account services etc.) they won't allow you to use their service any further. (A ban). You are in no way a criminal.

If a company does partially RMT themselves but supports a robust economy then the farmers can still undercut the companies, take EvE Online for example, You can buy in game items for real money from the developers and trade them to other players in game that allows you to refresh your monthly subscription for free, and yet farmers and RMT bots are still present.

I like how he pointed out that games can sell the currency themselves to combat this. Thats what guild wars 2 done. You can buy gems with actual money then turn those gems into gold. But it isnt a set price. Its kind of a stock market deal and the ratio of gems to gold and likewise can go up and down. This kid is smart. I do not really like what he does but it is a form of business and he has found a place in it. It really does have an impact on game play though for others :/

We can all say "wow, he's smart!" but is clearly not putting that to morally good use. No, gold farming isn't 'illegal,' as far as the law is concerned; but it ruins the game for others. I was literally JUST out trying to farm felcloth to get my Robe of the Void in classic and had to content with 3 seperate gold farming bots at every single camp. I wound up fearing the mobs away and got lucky enough to mess up the pathfinding on the bots so, that was a small win; but the people who are doing this aren't being paid fair wage, and may not even be doing this willingly. It's morally dubious at best, and quite honestly, I wish this guy would've just put his time into program development or the medical field. It would have done the world a lot more favors.

1: I have no clue what game you are talking about. 2: Bots increase the supply, the prices fall. This means the people who gather resources gain less gold then they would have if the bots didn't exist. With more currency in the system, the economy becomes inflated. Sort of like the US dollar.

19:20 There are a lot of factors you need to take into consideration when thinking about this stuff. Mainly it is the longevity of the subscribers actually playing the game, people may lose interest if in game currency is as easily obtainable as buying from some Chinese broker company. A lot of the "hours of game play" comes from obtaining in game currency. Developers also run the risk of their players getting scammed by fraudulent organizations. Now i haven't heard the kid answer the question but I feel that yes they can benefit from allowing this type of activity to go on but they run certain risks in doing so. And like the kid said developers can compete with these companies buy developing micro transactions in their games.

neither.. he says in the clip that it's kind of like an auction system, where thousands of farmers offer their gold, when intermediaries (people who buy from source and sell to customer - "the middle man") broadcast their orders, which they got from the websites that gamers go to for gold. Webpage X yells "I have an order for 10k gold on game Y", this guy says "i'll get the gold for you" and goes to the farmers and yells "10k gold on game Y!", after which the actual farmers go "i'll do it!!".

I kinda want to hate people like this, but part of me is also surprised by how "clever" it can be as well. While I hate it about humanity, he's right by saying that "if I don't provide it, others will". That's very true, unfortunately, very true. I've seen farmers really ruin the game, especially when trying to gather materials for your own use.

I like gold farmers. I work 12 hours a day and have about 4 hours of play time per week. For me to compete in-game and have fun against these little kids that are playing 12 hours a day, I need to use my working time money to get gold where while the kid is playing, I'm working. To me its a fair trade. In fact, I would argue AGAINST anyone complaining about gold and plays 12 hours a day, THAT is just as 'unfair' to people that have lives.

My only problem with companies that provide the services in this video is the in game spam whether it be in game mail, whispers/tells or general/trade/city chat channels. It's so annoying that you have to use chat filtering addons in games that support addons just to combat all the spam.

No. Buying gold is against the terms of agreement and if the company doesn't deliver, or say Blizzard notices you bought gold and takes it from you there is nothing you can do. It's at your own risk.

The time when runescape had the least gold farmers was when free trade was removed and that made the population of players decrease but goldfarms almost completely disappear then when it was brought back alot of people came back but goldfarmers made a massive comeback aswell. and now since the EoC is released alot of players didnt like that update but its also fucked up goldfarmers since the economy has basically collapsed. thus making the EoC the best thing that happened to Runescape

Very interesting stuff, Don't play MMO's anymore because I find them extremely boring but it's cool to see how someone has made a career out of something like this.

He graduates at 22 after doing an undergrad and a masters. That's just 4 years. That's the normal in the UK. How does that count as aggressive?

If I were "Firestorm" (I loved that joke of his) I'd not ban the farmers, I'd secretly move them to a gold farmers only server where everybody is just farming all day. Would waste a lot of their time while removing the gold from the ingame economy.
