So this happen to me the first time a couple days ago. I jump into jita with my freighter. As I try warping to the gate a Machariel bumps me knocking off my alignment and pushing me away from the gate. I had a couple bill in stuff onboard. I assume he had cargo scanned me. So then he convos me and basically says "your about to die" then drops a couple links to a killboard in the chat. I told him to suc it and closed the convo. I assume the links were to freighter kills. Idk didn't click them. So while he is still bumping me presumably telling his gank fleet that he has a good target I already have an alt in a t1 interceptor undocked and landing at the gate. My alt flies past me with microwarp and within about 10 seconds of his threat that I am going to die my alt is now over 250k away from me and basically in line with the direction the guy is bumping me. Afterall he can't just keep changing directions much as the momentum of the massive ship is the whole reason this works in the first place. While my alt was undocking I already had a fleet invite to him and he was fleeted up during his trip to the gate. Now I am going about 450m/s at this point but it doesn't matter. I initiate warp to my fleet member / alt and there is nothing he could do about it. As I come out of warp with the freighter my speed is reset to normal max velocity. I hit my freighter with my alt's web for 1 cycle to help him slow down. Then initiate warp to the station again. As soon as my speed gets over 1/4 I hit the freighter with the web again and he is off. From the time of the second bump when I realized what was happening I was already on my alt boarding the cepter and undocking. By the time of the 6th bump about 40 seconds into the attack. My alt was at the gate and we were in fleet together. Just after the 8th bump about 1 minute into this gank my freighter is in warp to my alt. 20 seconds later I am in warp to the station with the freighter. From my alt I could see the Machariel turning back to the gate as the freighter warped away. He had only made it about 100k of the 250k away I'd warped it in the time it took to get the freighter out. His fleet never showed. Like I said I never had this happen before and it worked out for me because I had an alt in system. This might not always be the case. It is none the less a perfect tactic for dealing with the situation that the anti gankers could use. Get the freighter in fleet and put someone 250k away with a web so the freighter can warp to them. Then web them to send them to warp. With multiple webs you can almost insta warp a freighter. That might save a few hours of repping the ship hoping it survives. Also my appologies to the 2 people who treid to convo and send mails claiming to be part of the anti gank team and willing to help. I assumed you were his alts and part of the gank. Thank you for attempting to help me. Hopefully my tactic will help you save many more. As for others who want to ensure your freighters get where they are going. When it absolutely must go because you have billions on the line. Take and alt or a friend. Put them in a loki or some other ship that gets sick bonuses to web range. Put 4 webs on them and fleet up. Now have the webber lead the way. Every time the freighter uncloaks as it initiates warp to the next gate the webber is already there ready to go. The webs are already active all he has to do is target one of the largest sig radius ships in the game. That meas the freighter will be in warp in about 3 seconds or less. Now once you deliver your cargo pay your friend for making sure you made it alive.

My providence had two gank attempts on it between Amarr and Jita, which both failed. The pilot had high grade slave implants, I was using armor extension rigs (whatever they were called) and nanos in low to help align times. Both events were when I entered system and saw a huge crowd of low standing ships. Seconds after decloaking they all red boxed and then LAAAAAAAAAAAG. I saw shields vanish and armor drop, but I had already told the ship to warp and jump. 10 minutes later the lag went away and I was sitting, cloaked, at the gate in the next system with full shields and 45% armor. When I picked up a highly valued T2 BPO half way across the galaxy I took my freigher - crammed with every T1 blueprint copy I had (this was back when you could not visually identify originals). 27 jumps one way, scanned more than 10 times, but no gank attempts made either direction - with 75 billion in the hold.

Bumping erks me about eve, you have an insanely massively heavy ship and can be bumped by some little oik. Why do they even have this in the game? Is this still the same as it was years ago?

As best as I can understand: If 100lb ball hit a 100000lb object they both move, not 100% of the momentum is transfered to the target (See opening break of a pool game) You'd figure that the cue ball would bounce off the 12 balls since their combined mass is 12 times that of the cue ball. The difference is if the 100000lb object is moving directly towards the 100lb object then the momentum of the 100000lb object is greater then the 100lb object. The 100000lb object would slow, however a minuscule amount and impart some of it's inertia to the 100lb object, but only if the 100000lb object is in motion and directly towards the 100lb object. It gets more complicated because as the 100lb ship accelerates it's mass increases and the amount of energy it transfer rises. If both 100 and 100k ships are travelling at one another at the same speed, yes the 100k ship would slightly slow and the other ship would likely be crushed instantly but with shields they are like rubber and the smaller ship should "bounce" off the larger ship. However if the smaller ship is moving fast enough it may have more energy\mass then the larger ship. In the real world the smaller ship would be like a bullet and punch through the larger ship but the presence of shields means they can't so the transfer of momentum is 100%. If you need a lore explanation the likely reason for bumping working as it does is likely the larger ship is trying to evade the collision and minimize the chance of damage and load on the shields so it tries to move away from the collision, coupled with the transfer of momentum results in a larger bump then normally expected.

Use less terminology on any tips / tutorial vids. New players don’t understand “bumped” “repped” “ganked”. Eve plays more like a spreadsheet exercise than a skill based game - knowledge of game mechanics is king. It’s a paper, rock, scissors exercise of knowing what you can or can’t do to enable this or that.

They do, but it takes time for them to show up and kill them, just enough time for them to kill the target. 0.5 systems have the slowest concord reaction time 1.0 have the fastest.

Use a Dare Devil. It has a 90% web with min frig to 5 and your freighter warps within 1 second from the webs being applied.

***** Most gates spawn points are within 20 k of gate. You get a toon in a daredevil and take gate and burn him back to zero. A fed navy web heated will give you a 18 k range go ahead and activate mwd and sit there take gate in freighter and have freighter toon click warp to desto use dare devil toon to burn at freighter while burning pre activate web and lock freighter up if you cant lock up a capital ship in your dare devil and close the 2-5k you need to apply web before you get bumped than you are the fuck tard bud.

If you are using a web bonused ship (or enough normal webs) you will warp instantly the webs land. That means it is only the time you take to lock with the webbing ship that the bumper has to get to you, unless they specifically know you have a webber and and lock the freighter before the webber with a point (which will then get concorded and pull concord on grid). While the gank will always still be possible it gets to the point where it really isn't worth the effort. They need to get convoluted like attempting to gank or jam your webbing ship.

The freighter community should have an Intel channel that can also call for help or even pay them to guard / web / rep you. Even if you paid 100M isk, its a fraction compared to 3B isk.

First day freighter pilot. Made the mistake of going through Uedema. Macherial bumped, used web alt, game crashed, launcher refused to load client, restarted launcher, got back in in a pod. Took about 10 minutes. unsubbed.

You should PvP more and maybe join some ganking fleets that way you can learn more of the mechanics of the pvp/gank side of the game. Knowing what your enemy is doing can be essential to your chances of survival.

Another tip. When hauling stuff around and I mainly just haul my own stuff around. 99% of it is not very valuable / m3. 1% of it is extremely valuable / m3. So DUH don't put the valuable stuff in your freighter. I was moving my main station home the other day. It took me 17 freighter loads to do it. 16 of them were completely full of low value minerals. The entire freighter load was worth less than 600 mill. Nobody is going to gank a freighter for 600 mill in minerals that b/c they are in 1 stack has a 50% chance of even dropping. The first freighter load had all my most valuable stuff in it. It was worth over 60 billion isk. It was full of tons of t2 modules, blueprints, and all kinds of stuff. Because it was many different item types it was many different stacks. This means if the freighter was ganked about 1/2 of it would have dropped. Still inspite of that of the 60 or so billion isk 59.4 billion of that didn't actually take up very much space at all. So obviously it would have been stupid to leave that in a freighter. Instead I took that extremely valuable stuff out and put it in a cloaky hauler. Then I ran it over to the new base in that. No offense to people who think they can catch anything but you have no chance at all of catching my cloaky hauler. I've made it though dozens of buble camps in WH space. Which if you dont' know is 100 times harder than making it through a 0.0 camp where you can come out in 50k diameter sphere. Instead you come out in a 15k sphere. Anyway I make it through them so high sec is nothing. Like I said ZERO chance of being caught. After the actual valuable are put away I took a shuttle back and started making freighter runs. Now you might think... Well what if I just split the valuables up over all the loads. Well you might do that if you had 60 loads. Maybe you wouldn't be ganked for only having 1.5 bill or so in the ship. Personally I think it just makes it far more likely that you will get ganked on any run. Instead doing it my way you have no chance of getting ganked "for profit" at least on any of your runs.

Remember, when you log out: Your skills don't apply and your EHP will drop accordingly - at least that's how it used to be. No Mechanic V, Shield Management V, or Hull Upgrades V. This makes you a much softer target.

still couldn't seem to figure out 'passive targeting' and how he realized he was first in trouble because he was yellow boxed.. only yellow boxes usually happening are the catalysts right before they overheat and dig into you 1 second later. Only way to avoid freighter ganking is fly with low value in your cargo. It's the only way. Few people will shell out 100 mil or something just to see you die (at a loss) it's the reason why I refuse to haul or use a freighter anymore. I think some said the 'break even' point for suicide ganking a freighter is around 700-800mil (roughly half your loot 'burns'). Keeping under 700 million isk in a freighter (or even 1 billion isk quoted elsewhere) makes freighters pretty much unviable. (tech1 freighters) Personal advice. Use the non cloaky blockade runners to move cargo if possible, or a t2 jump freighter. The t1's freighters aren't worth their weight. My thoughts; Not yours. -Blitz-

Its not how fast your going, its what direction your headed in. So if your going 10k m/s you can still warp, if your going exactly in the right direction. but if your going sideways you can be going exactly 80 m/s and it wont let you.

Some good tips especially the "fly smarter" and be in "a good corp". There is no such thing as safe in Eve, but managing risk helps. I notice you didn't mention anything about safe spots and scouting ahead. Its a tactic used in null sec all the time to move freighters, and does take some prep work to setup the safe spots. They're a good place to run when trouble is coming and can give the needed few seconds it takes to log off while they try to scan down the freighter.

It think your first line of defense as a freighter pilot against bumpers/gankers is to know your enemy and use a scout. I know exactly what they do, what they use and who they use incl. alts in preperation and execution of their gank. Even a log-on-trap doesnt work'. Because you see the signs and simply wont be there for them to attempt anything. Then just go around or go at a different time. If you do get caught tho try to use the speed from the bump to align to a station if one is in that particular direction. Otherwise get someone to web you and decrease the initial speed you need to initiate warp. But most of the time once they bump you often its to late. Some gankers have their timing down pretty tight so it leaves a small window to organise a response. I'm sure there are other methods to get around it but knowing my enemy works for me so far. Anyway, great game.

TheDollaDan Arming a civilian ship (a cruiser liner, ferighter, etc) in most cases is a serious violation of international an maritime law. It's why water cannons are on some ships to act as a non-lethal measure to try and defend a ship. As far as I could find that doesn't prohibit arming the staff of a ship.

Bumping with no intention to aggress or extort is considered harassment and will get your account actioned. Be sure to demand something from the freighter pilot if you intend to bump.

Okey. this video is so wrong in many ways. Step 1: Don't haul AFK. that one is easy. Because this translates into step 2. Step 2: When being bumped (can happen even when you are not afk). Try to safe log off as soon as possible. If that is not possible. Don't even try to log off. They will bring a quick catalyst or a noobship to quickly agres you. Step 3: Try to get help from 2-4 guys depending if you go 1 or 2 machariels bumping you, they will have to sacrifice themselves. Let them equip a cheap frigate with a MWD, warp scrambler and a web. make 2 of them follow each machariel until it wants to turn around to go for a bump. They will then agress the mach with a warp scram and a web, Scrambler will shut off the machariels MWD and the web makes it move at like 40 m/s. You then have enough time to align and warp off. If this does not work for any reason, you can try what you guys did and that is to bring as much logi as you can to make it not worth ganking. also the concord on the field from aggression will make them think twice about aggressing you on that grid. They need to get rid of the concord first by aggressing somewhere else.

If you use an Frighter and don´t want to get bumped. ask your friendly Reaper Pilot to fit his Reaper with 4 Faction-Webbs and web you as soon as you hit that Jump-Through-Button. 1. Your Frighter warpes imideatly. 2. Your Limited Engagementtimer resets every Time, so if you start your Haul-Session make an Duell ... Problem solved. Otherwhise: Use "SAFE LOGOFF" ... 1. You STAY in Local as long as your Ship does. 2. Safe Log-off only take 60 Seconds to do AND your Ship DON´T warp off.

The problem with ganking for profit is that profitable freighter kills are few and far between, but freighter kills demand 20 odd pilots. This many people need to be aware and prepared before a target is sighted, sometimes they'll need to be ready to fly at a moment's notice for hours. As a result, gank fleets often drop unprofitable freighters just to keep the pilots entertained. The everlasting mantra of "just one more nerf" has eliminated many forms of content from HiSec. The result is that it becomes increasingly difficult to apply a skill index to HiSec denizens. Careful players in tanky ships will find themselves in the crosshairs almost as often as morons with bling ships. Undo those changes and the issue of empty freighter/miner ganks starts to disappear again.
