cheers pred :) the fun is in outfoxing these particular carp, you can tell they've been pressured, I've never seen carp get away with it as much as these fish, I guess that's what keeps it interesting, you've always got to work out a way to trick them :)

Predator Fisherman completely agree with that pred :) lol, good luck in the lure comp mate, I can't imagine that'll be easy but it will be fun.

Enjoyed that, thanks. I've found super wary fish will respond to a floating bait zig-rigged to the surface. Perhaps they are fooled by the absence of a surface lying line? No matter how 'invisible' manufacturers claim the surface lines to be, I think carp spot and are spooked by it. The best method I've found is to be flexible and constantly change tactics to outwit them, sometimes whatever you do they eat everything but our baits. Great challenging summer fun. I live in France, last week I had a red letter day with 10 fish over 20lb in five hours of surface fishing and stalking, the last two weighed 14 and 15 kg! They seemed to forget all previous experiences.

I've been through everything with these fish bones, for every 10 looks at the bait I get maybe 1 or 2 hookups, I've tried zigs and caught a few but it's stopped working, I've been using the newer enterprise mixers with the foam insert, where the hook sits on top of the bait, that worked for a while but again they've sussed that one too. Getting them going and making them compete has worked best so far, once they are grabbing for everything I've a decent chance but you have to be so patient. A few lads have done well on the beachcaster but its making them super paranoid and making it even harder for me.

I live in France, I've been out there today in really hot conditions. I caught 12 carp, four on an over depth surface zig, two free lining, close in, and the rest floater fishing with a Fox float. I had a cross wind, so the zig worked well, the usual floater method saw missing take after take due to, poor visibility on the surface and their suspicious nature. Most fell to hair rigged baguette crust or chopped pop-ups. The biggest was the last fish I caught and was a very lively 13kg mirror. But the last thing I said is an interesting point, I've found that if I delay my fishing session until 16.00 or after the catch rate is better and the fish are not as suspicious with dusk coming on. Just a thought. It's apparent we have all the same problems, I love stalking and surface fishing, I don't night fish, nor do I fish in the winter, mixing up the technique is a definite plus for tricky carp. Favourite things are my Shimano 2500 xt FA reels, I have two 12' floater rods but my favourite is a 10' Bank creeper by Free Spirit an amazing little rod. I use Nash Gaper or Fang twister hooks, Nash NXT Zig Flo for floating hook lengths. Nash riser pellets with squid or crab oil added. Least favourite floater tackle etc. Nash Bolt Machine float, a tanglesome thing, the fake plastic biscuits, I've never caught a thing on them. Pity you're not out here, I think we'd make good floater fishing buddies.

I love those fake biscuits mate, I've caught loads on them but they do need trimming down a bit sometimes, they are just too buoyant ;) I can't get on with the nash zig flo line, I've got some but I much prefer drennan double strength, it seems to get me more bites. I like the bolt machine controllers too, specially the small one. I guess it's different things for different people?. I've got some footage of me fishing late in the evening and the light levels don't stop these particular fish from being cautious, like you say just keep mixing it up and trying different things until something works on the day. what are you using for mixers?, chum changed many years ago and not for the better, at the moment i'm using Tesco's own brand but they are quite poor and I always end up going back to the imitation mixer on the hook because it's more convenient.

Mark Carp lol...those plastic biscuits just sit there in my rig bag looking sad, I've tried them with the hook out of the water and the carp noticeably spooked off them. For feed I use a mixture of different sizes of pellets and biscuits but the base is always Nash Riser pellets, the carp here love them. I then add supermarket own brand dog and cat biscuits, a few Nash oily floater pellets and my local tackle shops own brand of the same thing. That mixture with some oil added creates a Piranha like frenzy with bow waves coming from quite a distance to join in. Even when it looks 'easy', it is possible to not catch a thing, although that is rare here.

thebones yeah I know what you mean, I've had them going plenty of times and somehow blanked but i'm persistent, one day you catch nowt, another they literally crawl up your rod. I've got some riser pellet but I've yet to try it, I've actually had a bag for a few months now but I haven't bothered opening it, I usually introduce just mixers, sometimes with a few slices of bread to give them something different, I might try the riser pellet I have, see how these fish react to it?.
