Great question. "Do you use cash anymore?" Great response. "As a personal form of protest". Today the UK government revealed they had received £12bn extra tax revenue as Brits had given up on using cash and were finding it hard to hide money as a result. The BoE is determined to launch its own CBDC and the Treasury look at it as an antidote to BTC. The UK government has gone out of its way to restrict BTC access and use, with a major push by our tax people, HMRC, to find those with crypto wallets and pursuade them to pay more tax on any gains.

I do the same thing with cash, and I say the exact same thing sometimes when people are surprised to see it.. keepin cash alive! I use my credit card a lot too out of convenience but I pay it off completely right away or before any interest is charged anyway. Hate the idea of a CBDC.

Possible correction. But from what i learnt before fed printing does not lead to consumer inflation. Its generally political party free cheques that lead to inflation. Fed printed during bank crisis that helped market without strong impact on inflation

I don't understand. Isn't a recession deflationary. Isn't that the purpose of a recession? In 2008, when the markets dropped, CPI went down also. CPI was negative in 2009/10. When we have a recession, CPI will tank.

Your statement is true of the 40 year deflationary cycle we just exited while rates trended downward within a clearly defined channel. We are now in a long inflationary cycle, which will for a while be accompanied by little-to-no real growth (when adjusted for inflation). This “growth” will be completely debt based. This is how Garreth comes up with stagflation. It would be like you saying your household wealth is growing because you keep borrowing more debt while your income remains stagnant at best. Eventually there will be “real growth” due to AI production increases, but it will be from a lower low. Until then, we are stuck in the mud spinning our wheels.

@@Open693 hasn't growth been debt based since 2008 or longer. That was the purpose of QE. Yet we never got the inflation or hyperinflation people warned about. Back in 2008 CPI was as high as 4% just before the Oct crash. Then it plummeted into negative territory. What makes you think we are in an inflationary cycle? I don't see it. Supply chains have been restored, stimulus checks are gone, and the QE has been shown to not cause inflation.

@@matteotortorici QE did prove to be inflationary in financial assets. Money printing without equal increases in production is the definition of inflation. QE money printing went to directly into housing, stocks, bonds autos, crypto and other credit/debt based assets. Rey little trickled out to the general public to spend. It was locked up in financial assets. Now the money printing is in the form of fiscal stimulus. You say there are no more Covid checks being sent out etc., it my friend, our nations debt still manages to grow by 1 trillion dollars ever 100 days, and it will increase from here…exponentially. The ones in control have two options at this point. One stops the exponentially printing of money and allows rates to rise, which ends in a deflationary depression. The other keeps keeps rates relatively elevated but in control, which requires exponential money printing to buy the bonds to do so, and also prints fiscal support to keep everyone happily eating at the trough, which leads to stagflation and possibly hyperinflation…and eventually a deflationary depression. Throughout history the ruling class has always chose the latter which is to inflate the debt away. It is more politically popular. Additionally, we relied on outsourcing production and jobs oversees for much of the last 40 years. This allowed inflation to remain low due to cheaper labor costs. There were other temporary fixes too. Now that production costs are increasing oversees those countries are looking to industrialize Africa etc to help but the debt cycle is coming to end, so there will be major volatility first. Believe me, I wish you were right my friend.
