Since so many people are asking, here are the choices for the finishing on the slate I used. I had 2 finishes the customer could choose from. One was 3 coats of plain Shellac that I would scuff the final coat, and the other was a custom blend of beeswax pellets and cutting board oil (70/30) that I cooked in a crockpot, poured into in a 4oz can, where it resolidified. The wax/oil I sold separately as an upsell item for $6.00. Most folks chose the wax.

First I would like to thank you for all the good information you give out. I have a question on the 70/30 mixture you use. do you measure it out by volume or weight

You seem to forget to mention your overhead such as electricity costs and such it takes 7 different electrical items to run my laser plus lighting and heat and cooling when needed

No I didn't Jim, the 8 slate coasters cost me $8, but as I said in the video, I put the cost at $15 to cover overhead.

Just 34 lasers and a wood shop Yolanda. I might do some future videos from there when it gets remodeled and doesn't look so bad 😎. Right now the lighting is poor and it's just your underwhelming metal building.

Happy Memorial Day. Brilliant video with outstanding advice. The concept of advertisement was excellently explained. My problem is to determine what my time is worth (usually underestimate myself). I am now using the Roly, so how much time will I have on the laser before I have to replace it (I guess I need to consider laser time in my selling price). Rich, keep your youtubes coming, they are awesome!

You can't JD. I used to get them from a wholesaler in TX, but they're gone now, which is why I use Michaels. Black Pearl slate was mined in TX from the 1920's to the 1960's. A company reopened part of the abandoned Whitestone Quarry, in Whitestone, TX in 2017, but he shut down in 2021 due to the Covid fiasco.
