@@orangehatmusic225 Who invented AI? Not really just one person (includes scientists from all over the world). John McCarthy, an American, is considered to be the father of AI though. Don't really see your point here. Now, it was not trained on Open AI data, since Open AI data is in Open AI and it's closed. It is highly unlikely that they hacked petabytes of data out of Open AI. What they probably ended up doing though was train on similar data sets that Open AI uses: like you know, the internet. You probably have heard of it. And in the past year or so, a ton of content publicly on the internet are ChatGPT outputs, which yes was most likely used by DeepSeek for training given that it's you know, public data. Now, all this doesn't really matter, since DeepSeek was able to create a product that is better in a lot of areas than ChatGPT. It beat ChatGPT in it's own game, for arguably less funding. It is also open source, and much more efficient. You can download it and run it locally offline on your computer. China wished the world a happy new year with this one.

Love it. Cheap AI... Couldn't see this one coming....(sarcasm). I've been watching this and have thought (over simplifying) we have a similar dynamic to the rollout of the "internet" within the context of phone level technology. It was one thing when you had to sit down in front of your computer to do it, its another when you have it with you ALL the time. Remember the days of CNBC and Bloomberg asking "how are they going to monetize it?..." With AI, here at the beginning it is more of a gimmick than anything. Oh yes, as it evolves, it will do ever more practical valuable things for the regular person, but everybody is still trying to figure out what to do with it exactly. AND so, all the effort is in building out the infrastructure and ever better chips and chips and chips and chips and data centers needing ever more power and more and more and more of it. The course was/is? clear. And right now the almost complete and utter concentration and focus upon teh the NVIDIA chips forming the core of the effort at the high end performance capability wise. AND then oops? Someone figures out how to do it cheap and easy. Uh oh... I'd move out from under that NVIDIA house of cards there and the subsidiary infrastructure sitting on top of it... Now its a bit early to say if it really can really do what it claims, think cold fusion, but even if it functions "well" at a lower level, the economies of scale will tell the tale... The real value will be a level of performance that makes the everyman at work and play and home and business do what they need and want to do easily. There will be the high level needs like sorting out ICD10 and Health Information Exchange (HIE) data warehouses and turning them into usable functional data sources for analysis etc., but the need for super high level, close to sentient if not there AI, will function in a similar fashion to supercomputers of today. Few and far between, essential like the truck that pulls my travel trailer, but not as a daily driver... But this type of evolution should not be surprising... But it is, simply because of human nature and how it functions within the context of its environment, inventing, acting, reacting over reacting, in the course of events leading eventually to a form of equilibrium. Think I don't understand. I PREDICTED the March 2020 crash. I have it documented. AND, I'm still making a healthy six figures in retirement. But, AND, I KNEW what was going to happen not for any reasons the market would understand technical or otherwise. It was understanding human nature and how IT reacts to change and threat... Damn glad I'm old, as I definitely see some form of crash and burn coming that will really rattle the foundations of our society. And frankly this old Analog creature we are may not be ready for what it has created. It sucks evolving from being a multi-million year old analog creature into a digital one where we created the digital environment with zero idea of what we were/are doing. And don't forget, Analog is robust. Digital is fragile and almost literally nothing for all intents and purposes other than those we give it. It is the ultimate abstraction, distracting and leading us to ????? So, yeah, let's make our world founded on bitcoin. Now at least its founded upon a piece of paper you can put your hands on and tear. That itself has been a bit sketchy. Now since we can, Let's build it on quantum bits of nothing...and then the sun will burp and it will all be gone, in an instant as but one thing we might consider... The CIA now thinks COVID was lab created, another thing to consider. And CRISPR only needs a clean garage and a bit of biology to change the human genome and Kim Jon Un, can get an electro magnetic pulse weapon 500 miles over the coast of California and... Of course I can still pick up a rock and hit you over the head to survive if need be. At least this old man remembers what Analog was all about. I can even change the points and plugs on an old car if I can find that damn timing gun.
