Sometimes Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.

Well most people in crypto don't seem to be aware that a fed cut usually triggers a dump in stocks... and stock owners are used to it and know it will go back higher, but crypto people freak the fuck out everytime something happens cause nobody seems to want to study how markets and money work. And often the FED has cut rates suddenly a month after saying they wouldn't... wanting to say that if we got a surprise cut in august, crypto would lose its shit. And I'm still lowkey wondering whether we might NOT get a cut in september, since that's what everybody has decided is gonna happen, or do get a cut, the economy tanks and they come out with a surprise hike later this year. .....currently I've been engaged in active trading, which is generally safer, allowing investors to weather market volatility and also managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3Bitcoin to a decent 24Bitcoin....I'm especially grateful to Linda Wilburn, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

The Roman debasement of coinage happened before Diocletian. His edict of prices was an attempt to deal with the fallout. He also reformed the coinage by issuing new high purity gold and silver coins. He then replaced the debased silver coins with new coins that were also debased but used a process to leach the silver to the surface so they appeared silver plated (like our clad quarters). The Romans were far more sophisticated than we imagine.

Govts all over the West seem to want to build more houses, but presumably they don't want prices to go down either, so it all seems a pointless exercise which will do nothing other than enrich those in the building and property industries.

I do think "greedflation" needs to be addressed through stronger antitrust laws. That said, neoliberalism (several decades of American politics at this point) is basically anti-antitrust. So we may be stuck with it. Agreed that price controls aren't a realistic fix.

Passive index investing promotes monopolies and anticompetitive behavior by reducing the cost of capital for high market cap companies. This cycle then reinforces itself in a positive feedback loop. The whole thing seems like a big joke sometimes

Harris' proposals are defiant of economic mechanics. The down payment assistance is for first generation home buyers, defined as those whose parents don't own a home. Other qualifiers include an unmarred 2 yr. rent payment history. A 10k tax credit to other first time buyers. SALT cap deductions end Dec. 31st ,2025. I haven't seen how she is structuring this outlay. Homebuilders will get a bump either way I would guess though. UK's Labour party plan of home building certainly helped some builder's stock there. Price controls... ya, not a smart idea. Market manipulation of prices will put businesses into long run revenue while maybe still ramping up. Companies will produce at a minimum of their long-run average costs. It's a horrible idea like you said. Gold is manipulated too much to know what is going on there. Thanks for the video. The CB 101 book was an interesting read.

I'm surprised Joseph that you're surprised that Kamala Harris is talking about price control. Her Dad was described as a Marxist Economist, which is bizarre theory. I don't live in America but I really pray she doesn't get elected, as she and her party will destroy the great country that the US is. Free market capitalism works best when politicians get out of the way. I really do enjoy listening to your views on economics once a week, keep up the great work.

Corporate socialism is how the USA has been operating since the 20th century. The amount of corporate tax payer bailouts, subsidies and tax breaks are unreal and not worth the cost to society. I agree with the idea that all that wasted tax payer money going to the private sector belongs to tax payers. In an ideal situation, all the tax payer money to the private sector would just get stopped instead of these price control solutions...

There are already US laws in the book to prosecute businesses that engage in price gouging after a disaster. As a former US Attorney General, VP Harris is well versed in these laws and their implementations. This is probably the basis for VP Harris proposal. The disasters in this case are the pandemic which resulted in supply chain issues, and the start of the war in Ukraine which sends energy prices, fertilizer and grain prices soaring after the West imposed sanctions on Russia. The supply chain issues have been largely resolved and the price increases as a result of the war in Ukraine have also largely come down and stabilized since then. The pandemic also led to a rise in inflation as a result of measures taken by the Fed to support the economy at the height of it. The Fed has since moved to raise interest rates and keep them high to lower inflation rates. These measures are largely working and the Fed is planning to start cutting interest rates as early as September 2024, probably. There are no more justifications for the continuing 25% increase in food prices that ordinary people have experienced for the past 3 years.

Each new generation of people has to figure out the same things for themselves. The only way to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past is through education, which is much easier said than done - especially when human ego gets in the way (everyone wants to feel special and in control of their own destiny - contemporary circumstances and historical precedents be damned!)
